Obituary: Conley Tirey

LANCASTER — Conley Tirey, 88, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday at Ephraim Mcdowell Medical Center in Danville, Ky. 

Conley was the husband of LaDonna Tirey. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Nancy Moore Tirey. Conley served in the Army for his country in World War II. While at war, he was hit by a shell in St. Lo, France, and was hospitalized for 35 months. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After the war, he was called to the ministry. For more than 52 years he was a member and pastored many churches in the Church of God in Georgia and Kentucky.

 Bro. Tirey is survived by his sons, Danny Tirey (Debbie) of North Carolina, Conley H. Tirey (Gay) of Georgetown, Ky., and David Paul Tirey (Lynn) of Lancaster; two daughters, Connie Davidson (Will) of Lancaster and Judy Reece (Hubert) of  Tennessee; a brother, Chester Tirey Jr. (Trudy) of Ohio; three sisters, Lola Lamb of Berea, Ky., Bertha Ivy and  Hazel McCoy, both of Ohio; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Richie, Kristy Ogle, Johathan Tirey, Greg Tirey, Shawna Martin, Aaron Tirey, Tabetha Tirey and Josh Tirey; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Coffey, Mary Beth Spencer, Emily Ogle, Jack Tirey, Chris Allen Ogle, Anthony Martin, Conner Martin and Seth Martin.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Wilburn, Lester, Othor, Ed, Lloyd, Willie and Walter Tirey; and a sister, Emma Mae Brandenburg.  

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Lancaster Nazarene Church with the Revs. Phillip Payne, Daryl Hodge, Leon Thomas and Dan Carr officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Caswell-Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion, Stanford.

Active pallbearers will be Tyler Coffey, Josh Tirey, Chris Allen Ogle, Aaron Tirey, Greg Tirey and Tim Ogle.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home.
