Two Stanford men have been charged with assaulting a sheriff's deputy after they allegedly began fighting with the officer on the back porch of a Skyline Drive residence early Monday morning.
Joseph E. Pumphrey, 36, and James S. Pumphrey, 67, were both arrested on charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and disarming a peace officer, according to Lincoln County Regional Jail records.
Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger said Deputy Sim Thacker responded to 1215 Skyline Drive in Stanford around 4:20 a.m. after a caller reported a man was arguing with his nephew and was "getting ready to become violent."
When Thacker arrived on the scene, the caller was outside the house and Thacker was allowed into the house, Folger said.
Thacker tried to gain entrance to a back porch area where Joseph and James Pumphrey were, but the two men attempted to hold the door shut and prevent the deputy from using the exit, Folger said.
