A 23-year-old woman and her 22-month-old daughter are dead after being stabbed Sunday at 233 Vaught Road.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said officers were called to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. and found Danel Correy Stanton and her daughter, Kaydence Ray Miers, in a bedroom at the home, owned by Stanton’s father, Robert Stanton.

Danel Stanton’s mother, Lilly Stanton, also had been stabbed, but was conscious when officers arrived. Robert and Lilly Stanton are divorced, but the two were both living in the house with their daughter and granddaughter.

Robert Stanton, who was not at home at the time of the stabbing, reported the incident to police after finding the victims.

Hall said Lilly Stanton did not speak to officers at the scene and will be interviewed at a later date. She was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she underwent surgery Sunday night, and is still in serious condition, he said.

“We don’t actually know who the perpetrator is here. We’re still investigating, and we’ve not charged anyone with anything,” Hall said.

Police could not comment on possible suspects or motives. Several kitchen knives were found at the scene, but Hall said lab reports are still needed to verify which, if any, were used in the attack.

There were no signs of forced entry at the residence, Hall said, and no previous reports of domestic violence.

Hall said he hopes Lilly Stanton will be able to provide more information.

Autopsy reports for Danel Stanton and Miers are expected today.
