Trio face meth charges in Boyle County

May 22, 2012

Three people remain in the Boyle County Detention Center today after a metal box containing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was tossed out of a car Friday during a traffic stop in Danville.

The Boyle County Sheriff’s Department said Michael Stephens, 33, of Parksville is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and numerous traffic offenses. He is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.

Passenger Ashley Tharp, 30, of 2565 Ky. 3246, Crab Orchard, was charged with the same offenses as Stephens and also booked for outstanding warrants on theft by deception, two counts of contempt of court and non-payment of fines. She is being held without bond.

Another passenger, Vyctoria Poland, 20, of 502 S. Lucas St., Junction City, Poland is being held on a $12,000 cash bond for alleged first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

About 2 a.m. Friday, Deputy Sheriff Al Isaacs conducted a traffic stop on the bypass near Lebanon Road with Deputy Tyler Morris on a white Chrysler car with tinted windows.

During the traffic stop, Stephens, the driver, was observed passing a metal box to Tharp, his front seat passenger. Tharp allegedly gave the deputy a false name to avoid being caught for four outstanding warrants.

The box, which was tossed out at the entrance to the jail on the bypass, contained individually packaged bags of methamphetamine, spoons and syringes, according to police.

The car also contained numerous syringes, baggies, digital scales and coffee filters with visible meth residue, police said.
