A Clark District Court judge Wednesday set a $500,000 bond for a Winchester woman accused of killing her daughter and granddaughter.

Lillie Stanton, 48, was arraigned via a video link on two counts of murder in the May 20 deaths of Danel Korrey Stanton, 23, and 22-month-old Kaydence Ray Miers.

Judge Brandy Oliver Brown scheduled a June 13 preliminary hearing for Lillie Stanton. A not guilty plea was entered automatically on Lillie Stanton's behalf.

According to Winchester Police, Lillie Stanton told officers she was concerned about a May 23 Clark County Family Court custody hearing between her daughter and Jonathon Miers. Initially, a citation filed by investigators states, Lillie Stanton wanted to take her daughter and granddaughter out of state, but did not have the money to do so. She said "killing them was the best thing to do."

Lillie Stanton has been jailed at the Clark County Detention Center since being released May 23 from the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was hospitalized for treatment of apparently self-inflicted knife wounds to her wrists and throat.

According to the citation, Lillie Stanton said both Danel Stanton and Kaydence Miers were asleep in their beds May 20. She said she took Kaydence Miers to the basement and cut her throat before returning her to bed. She said she also cut Danel Stanton’s throat, but was unsuccessful in killing her. She told police she then suffocated her.

Full coverage of the hearing will be available in the Thursday edition of the Sun.
