Bike rally and festival to benefit veterans

Operation NC Eagle Alliance, a non-profit organization comprised of members of the United States military veterans, active military status, their families and fellow students with a strong passion to the cause who currently are attending National College in Danville, is having a bike rally and “support our veterans” festival June 23 at the National College campus, 115 E. Lexington Ave. The rain date will be June 24.

The bike rally registration is at 10 a.m., and the ride will begin at 11 a.m. The cost is $15 per driver, $10 per rider and includes a T-shirt. There will be a poker run featuring a five-stop route with first-, second-, and third-place prizes awarded.

The public festival begins at noon and will feature the band Social Burdon. Food and games will be offered.

Proceeds from the bike rally and festival will go to benefit veterans in need in the Danville community.

Memorial motorcycle ride scheduled

The second annual Chief Wendell Boyd Memorial Ride Fire 707 will be June 23. Registration is from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Ultimate Thunder in Danville, and the ride will start at 2 p.m. The cost is $10 a bike and $5 a passenger. The first 25 riders to check in get a free T-shirt.

The ride will end at the Boyle County Fairgrounds, where there will be a 50/50 drawing, with tickets at $1 each or eight for $5. LOCO BBQ will sell plate lunches at the end of the ride — about 5 p.m. — but you don’t have to ride to purchase food. All proceeds will go to the Danville/Boyle County Toy Drive. Also, the Chief Wendell Boyd Community Service Award will be announced.

Meeting

Perryville City Council — 7 p.m. Thursday at the community center. Items on the agenda include: presentation of 2011 audit; first reading of 2012-13 budget ordinance; approval of bid specs for garbage collection contract; and Boyle area designation five-year solid waste plan.
