Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center leverages AOI

DALLAS — Accent on Integration, a leading provider of integration software and medical device connectivity solutions, recently announced Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is leveraging AOI’s Accelero Connect healthcare integration platform to enable and automate the flow of maternal and fetal records captured in Philips OB TraceVue to its MEDITECH Hospital Information System.

By using Accelero Connect to integrate data from the perinatal information system with the HIS, Ephraim McDowell has eliminated data silos and is enabling instant access to the electronic medical records of mothers and infants created in OB TraceVue.

Historically, when a patient was transferred out of the maternity care unit, Ephraim had to print the patient record created in OB TraceVue to make it available to clinicians in other departments, such as postpartum and the nursery.

With Accelero Connect in place, clinicians across the hospital are able to log in to MEDITECH and have complete and seamless access to information documented in OB TraceVue. In addition, vital signs data is now available in MEDITECH, allowing Ephraim McDowell’s clinicians to electronically trace the path of patient care without having to review paper records or re-enter information.

“This level of integration never seemed possible, but AOI brought a level of expertise and out-of-the-box thinking that is rare in healthcare,” said Becky Blevins, information services manager at Ephraim. “The AOI team recognized Ephraim’s specific needs and helped us develop a comprehensive plan to accomplish our integration goals.  We very much value our relationship with AOI, and we look forward to working with them on future advanced integration projects.”

With the integration of MEDITECH and OB TraceVue, Ephraim can now take advantage of reporting capabilities in MEDITECH to gain in-depth operational and clinical analyses, including staffing ratios and medication administration timelines, without having to manually extract and review the data from OB TraceVue.  Ephraim is also able to instantly capture and monitorC-sectionrates to ensure the hospital meets nationalC-sectioncriteria.

“Our hospital is dedicated to delivering the best patient care possible, and AOI is helping us do just that by integrating our technologies so we can improve documentation processes, remove data silos and enhance overall operations,” said Bill Snapp, chief financial officer at Ephraim.  “AOI’s integration knowledge and expertise are great assets to Ephraim, especially as we strive to fully maximize each of the healthcare technologies we have in place to not only deliver quality patient care, but also meet current and future meaningful use requirements.”

“It is extremely rewarding to work with hospitals like Ephraim, who recognize the power and impact that intelligent integration and data-sharing technologies can have on patient care,” said Marc C. Andiel, co-founder and CEO of AOI.  “AOI shares Ephraim’s enthusiasm and patient-centric focus, and we look forward to building upon our already strong relationship to ensure the high availability of clinical and patient-specific information with future integration projects.”
