The Rev. John T. Thompson, 87, husband of 62 years to Jeanie Walton Thompson, joined his heavenly father June 7. He was the son of late Charles R. and Sue Hisel Thompson. Additional survivors include his children, Mark, John A. and wife Gail, and Scott and wife Marla Thompson of Jessamine County, and Dale and wife Patty Thompson of Maryland; daughter K. Dawn Floyd and husband Michael of Nicholasville; daughter-in-law Laranda Gividen Thompson of Shepherdsville; grandchildren Jaisa and husband Malcom Miracle, Mark Erinn and wife Christy, Daniel and wife Jordan, John Will and Bryan Thompson, Laura and husband Cliff Minton, Nate Floyd of Nicholasville, Joshua and wife Lanie Thompson of Alaska, Vincent John, Jenna and husband Justin Howell, and Danielle Thompson of Maryland; great-grandchildren Addison, Kennedy Thompson, Malin and Emma Miracle, Andrew, Ben, Cameron, Nicholas Thompson of Nicholasville, and Alivia and Austin Thompson of Alaska; two sisters, Hazel Hamilton of Lexington and Jewell Smith of Wilmore; and one brother, Gordon and wife Dorothy Thompson of Wilmore. He was preceded in death by son Stephen Ray Thompson; Kitty J. Thompson, mother of Jaisa Miracle and Erinn Thompson; two brothers, Grant and Robert Thompson; and one sister, Lucille Snowden. He served in World War II as flight instructor and pilot. He graduated from Clark County High, Georgetown College and Baylor University. He was ordained November 1954 by Boones Creek Baptist Church. During his 50 years as minister, he served the following churches: South Irvine, Mt. Pleasant, Shawnee Run, and Devondale Baptist churches, retiring 2002. He taught Old Testament and history for 38 years at Lexington Baptist College. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Services were held at noon Tuesday, June 12, at Edgewood Baptist Church. Burial followed at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville, conducted by the Rev. Steve Sholar. Visitation was from 4-9 p.m. Monday at Betts & West Funeral Home.
