East Jessamine’s Seth Hunt will be playing Division I football in the fall after signing with Eastern Kentucky University last month.

The senior has been recruited as a fullback by the Colonels.

Hunt had a productive senior year on both sides of the ball, but his junior year was cut short by a torn ACL.

“I’ve watched the young man grow up ... went through the heart break of the torn ACL and had a few tears with him and watched him come back his senior year,” East Jessamine coach Mike Bowlin said.

“(Tearing my ACL) was the worst time of my life. I’m not going to lie,” Hunt said “I never gave up ... Eight months of physical therapy was really tough.”

Hunt has wanted to go to Eastern since he was kid and has fallen in love with the program.

Most schools had been recruiting Hunt to play defensive end, but Eastern came with the fullback approach — which Hunt took to immediately.

“I’m looking forward to a fresh start, new teammates, everything new,” Hunt said.

“To see one of the favorite players that I’ve ever coached go to my alma mater (Eastern) is something special,” Bowlin said. “The day that coach (Dean) Hood came over to recruit him, my fingers were crossed and when he left I called him and said, ‘What do you think?’ and he called back and said ‘I love Seth Hunt.’”

Last year when Bowlin went to watch an Eastern game, he realized that Hunt could hang with the Colonels’ 200-pound fullback. When Hunt spoke with Hood, the coach told Hunt that the Colonel’s running back once carried the ball 41 times in a game last year and asked him what his thoughts were on that — trying to imply that Hunt wasn’t going to get to touch the ball that much — Hunt’s immediate response was, “Well sir, I guess I’ll be blocking 41 times for him.”

Hunt plans on majoring in criminal justice. The Colonels are coming off their third OVC championship in five years and are ranked No. 9 preseason in the FCS.
