Man charged in theft ring

STANFORD — A¿Lincoln County man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a theft ring involving equipment stolen in Lincoln and Casey counties and sold out of state.

Trevor Sims, 22, was taken into custody at his Skyline Drive residence by Lincoln Deputy Sheriff John Williams and Casey Deputy Sheriff Chad Weddle and charged with burglary and receiving stolen property. He was lodged in the Casey County Detention Center.

Lincoln Sheriff Curt Folger said the two deputies tracked three stolen zero-turn mowers and a golf cart to a location in Tennessee and used information obtained in that investigation to get a search warrant for Sims’ residence. There they found power tools, a generator, a pressure washer and several weed trimmers that had been reported stolen in Lincoln and Casey counties, Folger said.

Investigation into the thefts and sale of the stolen property is continuing, and Folger said there are several other suspects from the area believed to be involved in the operation.

Burglar caught stealing from home

STANFORD — A Lincoln County man was arrested Wednesday after he was caught in the middle of an alleged break-in on Lancaster Road near Crab Orchard.

Frankie Simpson, 28, of 405 Ash St. in Crab Orchard was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools and lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Jail.

According to Sheriff Curt Folger, Chris Cope was driving by his father’s home at 1205 Lancaster Road and noticed the front door was standing open and a strange vehicle in the driveway. Cope, knowing his father was out of town, called 911 and blocked the other vehicle from leaving the scene.

Constable Jesse Harris arrived shortly and discovered the front door had been kicked in. He found Simpson at the scene and held him until deputies arrived to take him into custody, Folger said.

Large marijuana crop found in Lincoln

STANFORD — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is looking for help in identifying the persons responsible for cultivating a good-sized marijuana crop discovered Saturday in a remote field off Ky. 328 West in southern Lincoln County.

Police discovered about 120 pot plants growing in a wooded area well off the highway. Had they been harvested, the plants would have had a value of $200,000.
