HARRODSBURG — A suggestion by a couple of community members has led to a series of cooking classes sponsored by the Arts Council of Mercer County.
Arts Council founder Joy Mosko said she approached Chef Nic Wisecarver, formerly of Mermaids Bar & Bistro, to participate.
“He was excited about it,” Mosko said. “So I met with the ladies and hashed out the details.”
The ladies — Bonnie Tanner and Lois Mateus — also opened their kitchens up to the participating chefs. Local ingredients will be used in what the chefs and their classes create, Mosko added.
She said she didn’t realize the artsy aspects of food when she got into the food industry.
“Even with just the mixing of things, you’re taking ingredients and making them taste good,” Mosko explained, adding a serving plate or display plate is akin to an artist’s canvas. “I think the goal (of the cooking series) is to let people know cooking is not hard. ... You can put different things together to create an original dish that would explode on your taste buds.
