As part of a video project promoting Winchester, an Eastern Kentucky University student has been getting to know the ins and outs of town.

Matt Gordon, an EKU film student, will produce a series of short videos for the Winchester-Clark County Tourism Commission to use as promotional tools on TourWinchester.com and YouTube. The project is also fulfilling a summer co-op internship.

He will produce the videos under the advisement of his professor, Emerson St. John, who has appeared on numerous TV shows and directed several early episodes of the popular show “Pawn Stars.”

“He kind of handed it over to me for my first project,” Gordon said.

Gordon has already shot footage of the 2012 Beer Cheese Festival, the Civil War Re-enactment, and most recently, the Bluegrass Heritage Museum and the Mountain Mission Bed and Breakfast.

All the events and venues he films, Gordon said, are “things that make Winchester, Winchester.”

The videos will “give a quick insight to what Winchester’s about and the feel of Winchester,” he said.

So far, everyone Gordon has worked with locally has been supportive and welcoming. Although he has an aunt and uncle who live in Winchester, he said he was surprised by all the history he has come across within the community.

“I wasn’t even aware all this stuff was here,” Gordon said.

Nancy Turner, executive director of the Tourism Commission, said the project is a way “to get local people excited about Winchester.”

The videos will also be used as recruitment tools. Gordon said he is going to finish them by early fall.
