Arts Center offers new ballroom dance course

DON'T FORGET TO DANCE:

July 07, 2012|By BOBBIE CURD | bcurd@amnews.com

Just in time for the busy summertime wedding season, the Community Arts Center offers an exciting new 4-week course to teach students how to hold their own on the dance floor.

Beginning Ballroom Dance, instructed by Wesley Bratcher, will offer participants a chance to learn the basics of several dances. Bratcher says the class is perfect for couples as well as individuals, and anyone who takes the class without a partner will be set up with one during class.

A dance veteran of more than 15 years, Bratcher is known for his outgoing personality and love of the art of dance. He hopes this course will have dancers itching to learn more in the future.

Each class will consist of at least 45-50 minutes of dancing, targeting beginners. Bratcher will teach new steps each session, plus review learned steps. The course will highlight the basics of Latin and swing dances.

Bratcher says if students who finish the course want to learn more, there’s a chance he could offer a second course for those who know the basics.

Last call for camp

Summer camp is filling up quickly, so interested children need their parents or guardians to complete and submit Arts Exploration Camp registration forms as soon as possible.

The camp will focus on arts activities encouraging children to flex their creative skill sets. Instructors on site will work to aim students’ energy at writing, music and movement, painting and many other thought-provoking projects to keep minds fresh and active during the summertime. A newly added introduction to dulcimer activity will hopefully wet kids’ appetites for the musical arts.

Forms can be downloaded from the website and registration may be done on line as well — parents need to bring the signed forms with them even if they registered on line due to authorization signatures needed.

Monday is the deadline for registering students. Camp is offered to those going into second through fifth grades in the fall.

Parents need to remember — lunch is not served. Also, the arts can get messy — some of the activities may stain clothing, so students need to be dressed accordingly.
