Sara Hieneman pitched a three-hitter, complete with 12 strikeouts to lead Russell-Flatwoods to a 5-3 victory over North Laurel in the finals of the 11-12-year-old Little League State Softball Tournament Thursday night at Lykins Park.
Annalee Miller and Jaclyn Miller paced the Russell-Flatwoods offense with two hits apiece, with one of Jaclyn’s hits going for extra bases.
Russell-Flatwoods joins Marion County (9-10) and Red River (10-11) as state tournament winners during the six-day event that concluded Thursday night. Winchester’s lone entry finished fourth in the 11-12 division.
Hieneman and Russell-Flatwoods went undefeated in the 11-12 bracket and advances to the Central Region Softball Tournament that begins July 21 in Indianapolis.
