Veteran unhappy with EKU experience

July 21, 2012

I am an EKU alumnus. I received my BA from Dr. Whitlock in 2010. I wanted to get credits I earned from the Navy put on my EKU transcripts to make them official.

I was told that EKU couldn’t go back and retroactively put them on my transcripts when I had already graduated.

Getting a degree from EKU has been like pulling teeth, a whole mouthful of teeth, from a belligerent giant. But I got what I wanted, a degree and official transcripts with 24 Navy credits.

EKU staff would look at me in a questioning manner, as if though they doubted I could actually be a student. This may have been due to the car wreck I had that dis-enabled me leaving me appearing as though I may be slow. I would get smirks when I told them that I had an honorable discharge from the Navy after I spent two years with the Marine Corps as a hospital corpsman.

This spring, I tried once again to get my Navy credits put on my EKU transcripts. The registrar at EKU put 24 hours of Navy Hospital Corps credits on my EKU transcripts. But not until after I spent a day recently making calls to EKU in Richmond threatening with letters to the editor.
