Arthur M. “Whitey” Walson, 75, passed on to the Lord on Monday, July 30, after a valiant 16 year battle with prostate cancer.

He was a native and life-long resident of Clark County, was the son of the late Pete and Gola Palmer Walson of Trapp, and attended Calvary Christian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Billie Jo Walson; one son, Judge Jeffrey M. Walson; two grandchildren, Jacob Palmer and Savannah Marie Walson; a brother, Cecil Walson; a daughter-in-law, Allyson Walson; two sisters-in-law, Lois J. Oliver and Pearl Walson; and three nieces, Paula Joslin, Pam Hersel and Nancy Seale.

He founded the Kentucky Trust for Life and was recently nationally recognized for his efforts in promoting organ donation. The program he started in Kentucky has now been emulated in 16 other states. For 18 years he served as Clark Circuit Clerk before serving as Assistant Director of the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts. Upon retirement, he continued working as a commercial warehouseman and farmer.

He was a four-term president of the Kentucky Circuit Clerks’ Association, and was involved in many improvements to and modernization of the state’s court system. Locally, he was devoted to Winchester and Clark County, involved in community projects and civic endeavors too numerous to mention, and served on several boards and committees, including the Clark County Community Foundation, an original member of the Winchester-Clark County Planning Commission, Winchester-Clark County Industrial Authority, the boards of Peoples Commercial, Area and BB&T banks, Winchester-Clark County Heritage Commission and the Winchester Downtown Lighting Committee.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Calvary Christian Church by Scobee Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Walton officiating. Public visitation will be at the Church on Wednesday from noon p.m. until the time of service.

Active pallbearers will be William A. Berryman, Robert L. Rose, John A. Rose, Brian Thomas, Donnie Woosley and Robert D. Flynn.

Honorary pallbearers will be James B. Allen, Judge William Jennings, Judge James S. Chenault, Arnold Juett, James C. Codell IV, Carl Jennings, Roger Berryman, George Mayberry, Glen White, Edith Cox, Ron Clemons, John Graybill, John Henry Ramsey, Jack Ross, David Taylor, J. D. Wells, Robert Gayheart, Harold K. Taylor and James M. Groves.

The family wishes to especially thank all of the wonderful staff of the Clark Regional Medical Center Transitional Care Unit for their compassion and professionalism during his final struggle in this world.
