Downtown stores plan sales

Heart of Danville’s Downtown Lemons and Leftovers Sale will take place Friday and Saturday. With 13 downtown stores participating, merchants will offer sales and savings on items that may not have sold well or that need to be sold to make room for more inventory, along with other sales. Many stores will offer lemonade and lemon-themed snacks, and a few may even have local children and/or civic groups providing lemonade stands.

The participating businesses include: A&L Accessories, Carol’s Bridal & Gifts, The Clothes Horse, Community Arts Center, Danville Bike & Footwear, Derby Shoppe & Raggs, Karamel Kreations, Lily Manor Day Spa and Salon, Maple Tree Gallery, Muddy Creek Primitives, The Purple Pearl, Thoroughbred Threads, and V the Market. All businesses will operate under their normal hours.

Lawn Chair Theater is Friday

Heart of Danville’s Lawn Chair Theater will show “Field of Dreams” Friday, a movie previously rained out in July. The movie will be shown in Constitution Square Park, and will begin at dusk. Admission is free, and popcorn and drinks will be on sale. The movie will begin at dusk. Farmers National Bank is sponsoring this week’s movie. Boil water advisory lifted

LANCASTER — As of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a boil water advisory for southeastern Garrard County has been lifted, according to the Garrard County Water Association.

Commodities distribution set

Commodities distribution will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 555 E. Lexington Ave. Drive-thru service pickup will be available.

Recipients are asked not to arrive early and to follow directions as indicated by station volunteers and posted signs. Identification must be shown to pick up commodities. If someone else who is not already a designated authorized representative picks up items, recipient must send a signed note and identification must be shown. Clients on a waiting list should arrive about 1 p.m. and will be directed by the volunteer on where to park. For more information, call (859) 236-2955.

Ham breakfast set for Saturday

Danville’s Franklin Masonic Lodge will have a country ham breakfast 7-10 a.m. Saturday at the lodge hall, 400 N. Fourth St. The menu includes ham, sausage, bacon, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, coffee, orange juice and pastries.

Smoking cessation classes offered

The Boyle County Health Department is sponsoring a free Cooper/Clayton Method to Stop Smoking program beginning Aug 7. Led by trained facilitators, the Cooper/Clayton Method is a comprehensive 13-week group support program that uses proven methods to help people stop smoking. The program includes educational sessions and group support.

Nicotine replacement patches are provided free of charge to Boyle County residents.

Classes will meet on Tuesdays. Participants can choose between two class times — 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. Class sessions are one hour. For more information or to register, call Julie Steber at (859) 236-2053.

Danville Board of Education — 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday at Boyle County Public Library. Board retreat agenda items include facilities and minority recruitment and retention.

Danville Board of Education — 6 p.m. Monday at central office. Work session agenda items include budget update, Bate Foundation update, and minority recruitment and retention.

Lancaster City Council — 7 p.m. Monday at city hall. Agenda items include possible appointment of a new city attorney, discussion of new fire truck, and first reading of a proposed property tax ordinance.
