The George Rogers Clark boys golf team finished third in the South¿Warren Invitational Tournament Monday in Bowling Green.
The Cardinals finished in a two-way tie with St. Mary’s, but the Vikings secured the runner-up spot on a scorecard playoff.
“The tie was broken by the fifth players’ scores,” Clark coach Kevin Cope said. “Their fifth man shot an 86 and our fifth man, Hunter Rowe, shot an 87.”
Ryle took first-place honors in the one-day event with a 306, followed by Clark and St. Mary with a 316.
“We did not shoot our best score of the season, but we did get our best finish of the season,” said Cope, whose team has placed ninth, fifth and third in three tournaments this season.
“In future tournaments, our goal is to put everything together and compete for the top spot.”
Cope said he’s confident his squad can piece together a top finish.
“My guys are working hard to improve their game and correct their weaknesses,” the Clark coach said. “That hard work is going to pay off eventually.”
Blake Cartwright paced the Cardinals with a 75, followed by Ross Todd and Matthew Omohundro with an 80. Jacob Omohundro finished with an 81 and Hunter Rowe fired an 87.
