County calendar for Aug. 9

THURSDAY

— The annual Wilmore High School reunion will take place Thursday, Aug. 9, at 11:30 a.m. at the Golden Corral in Nicholasville. All graduates of the old Wilmore High School are invited to attend. Each person will go through the Golden Corral line and pay for their own meal. Afterward, a plate will be passed for the tip. The group has reserved a private room for the event. — The Jessamine County Public Library will host one-on-one job search assistance from 3:30-4:15 p.m.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host movie night at 6 p.m. This week’s movie is “The Artist.”

FRIDAY

— The Gospel on the Green concert series will feature Hearts of Faith followed by The Dominion Quartet. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Green in Wilmore. Tables and chairs will be provided, or you may bring your own. Local food vendors will be on hand to sell their fare. Please bring a canned food item to donate to the local food pantry or pet food for the county’s new animal shelter.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host an “Art Alive” elementary program from 10:30 to noon. The library will also host an “Art Alive” teen and adult program from 2-4 p.m.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host a teacher breakfast from 9-11:30 a.m.

— Jessamine Adult Day will host a yard sale and bake sale Friday, Aug. 10, from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the adult day program. The yard sale will continue Saturday, Aug. 11, from 8 a.m. until noon. For more information, call 859-887-2208.

SATURDAY

— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 859-885-4481.

— The Wilmore Farmers Market is open for the 2012 season. Fresh produce and baked goods will be available each Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The market will be open rain or shine until 1 p.m. or until that week’s goods are sold out. The market is located in the city-hall parking lot.

— The Stonebridge summer Saturday-night concert series will feature Natalie Berry and G-Force. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Green in Wilmore. Tables and chairs will be provided, or you may bring your own. Local food vendors will be on hand to sell their fare. Please bring a canned food item to donate to the local food pantry or pet food for the county’s new animal shelter.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host recycled magazine and crafts at 2 p.m.

SUNDAY

— Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church, located at 926 S. Main St., offers free bread to families and individuals in need in the Nicholasville area. Saint Athanasius distributes this bread, supplied by Panera Bread, every Sunday from 1-2 p.m. on the porch of the South Main Street location.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host an indoor drive-in movie at 2 p.m. This week’s movie is “The Muppets.”

MONDAY

— The Jessamine County Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and welcomes people 60 years of age and older. The center has a fully equipped exercise room and a thrift shop. The seniors meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bus service and a hot lunch are available on a donation basis. For more information, call 859-885-9102.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host summer story time for little ones at 10:30 a.m.

TUESDAY

— The TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Creekside Senior Apartments, 407 N. 2nd St. in Nicholasville. For cost and more information, contact Donald Wither at 859-312-7455.

— The Jessamine County Ministerial Association (JCMA) will meet Tuesday, Aug. 14, at noon at Wilmore Free Methodist Church, located at 1200 Lexington Road, Wilmore. Jessamine County pastors, ministers and chaplains are invited to attend this meeting. Reservations are not required but are appreciated. — The Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon will take place at noon at Sam’s Club. Cost is $10.50 with reservation and $12.50 without reservations.
