A Clark County man wanted for stealing auto parts from the Toyota manufacturing plant in Georgetown was arrested Thursday in Louisville.

Michael Kenny, 66, was arrested by Louisville Police shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday after he was found sleeping in his 2002 Mazda in the parking lot of a Kroger store on Buechel Bypass in Louisville.

According to the arrest report, as officers approached his vehicle, Kenny awoke, started his vehicle and drove away. Officers pursued Kenny, eventually pulling him over on Hurstbourne Parkway near Watterson Trail.

Kenny was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, reckless driving and disregarding a traffic control device, for allegedly disregarding police lights and sirens, driving through three traffic lights and  making unsafe turns into oncoming traffic, according to the arrest report.

Kenny had an outstanding warrant against him from the Georgetown Police Department for allegedly stealing $56,000 in auto parts from the Georgetown Toyota plant between March 19 and May 15 while he was a temporary employee of the company.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Kenny allegedly stole 160 cylinder engine heads for four- and six-cylinder engines, valued at $350 each. After removing them from the plant floor, Kenny would then place the items outside a fence on the property and return later to load them into his pickup truck. He would later sell the engine heads as scrap to two recycling companies, Stuffs Recycling and Can Man Recycling, the warrant states.

Authorities said Kenny was photographed selling the items at one of the recycling companies and admitted to the thefts during a phone call recorded by detectives.

Kenny is charged with theft by unlawful taking more than $10,000 in connection to the Georgetown case.
He is being held in the Louisville Metro jail.
