East and West Jessamine football teams lose in season openers

East Jessamine and West Jessamine were again on the losing end of their season-opening Bowl games.

The Jaguars (0-1) opened the festivities againstSomerset(1-0) with a 20-6 loss. East was able to keep the Briar Jumpers off the board in the first quarter before giving up a 2-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. 

East's offense, which was atrocious in first quarter, final broke through in the final minute of the first half. Quarterback Skylar Rose hit receiver Kameren Sanders on a slant route across the middle for a 12-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

Somersetset up a quick-strike touchdown to take a 14-6 lead into the half.

The East defense was able to keepSomersetoff the board for most of the second half and give the offense a chance, but no points came for the Jaguars.Somersetclosed the door with a touchdown in the final minutes.


Tates Creek 28 - West Jessamine 9

West Jessamine hosted Tates Creek in the nightcap for the Bowl.

Despite some big plays by the Colts (0-1) on offense, they could only manage nine points in the 28-9 loss.

The Colts used a field goal and 75-yard flea flicker in the first half to take a 9-7 lead at halftime, but it was all Commodores (1-0) in the second half as they scored twice in the third quarter and once more late in the fourth to put the game away.

Tates jumped out to a 7-0 lead late in the first period, but West worked its way into the lead by halftime. 

Following a turnover on downs, West took control at its own 25. Quarterback Ryan Horne took the snap and tossed it to Devin Taylor. Tayor rolled out to the left side and dumped a light pass off to Robbie Irgang a few yards down field. Irgang took it the distance for West's first touchdown of the season -- which put the Colts up 9-7 at the time.

Tates Creek wore down the West defense throughout the second half and went on to the 19-point win.
