HARRODSBURG - The skeletal remains of a baby were discovered in the attic of a Mercer County home last week, and the Harrodsburg detective on the case says the investigation may already be at a dead-end. The sex, cause of death or when the baby was born cannot be determined. Detective Gary Bradshaw said police received a call about 1:30 p.m. Friday from 364 Runyon Road about an unidentified skeleton found in the home. Family members of the homeowner, Shirley Keebortz, were going through her belongings in the attic when they found the bones in a trunk.

Elliott Porter always believes he has to work harder than everyone else. Porter, a Danville senior, suffered nerve damage to his neck and shoulder during birth that resulted in a combination of Erb's palsy and Klumpke's palsy. It left Porter with a left arm that is smaller and weaker than his right. But it did not stopped Porter from being a two-way starter on the offensive and defensive lines for the Danville football team, and four-year wrestler. Now Porter has beennamed to the Tom Leach All-Resilient team.  In fact, his condition may have given Porter even more of a drive to be successful.

One of Danville's newer businesses has raised eyebrows with some of its risqué offerings, but the owners say they are providing a legal and less seedy alternative to similar stores elsewhere. Behind Closed Doors, which opened at 800 Finn Hill Drive in January, sells a number of adult novelties, lingerie and items some would describe as sex toys, along with band posters, T-shirts and other items. A large part of the store's inventory also includes a variety of pipes for smoking tobacco.

Jordan Gay always envisioned himself kicking a ball for a long time. It's just that it was a soccer ball, not a football, that the Danville native liked to kick around until then Danville High School football coach Sam Harp helped persuade him to also try football. His senior year he put about two-thirds of his kickoffs into the end zone and averaged 33 yards per punt despite using a rugby-style kick that Harp wanted him to do to help with punt coverage. With an assist from then Centre College assistant coach Tom Brown, Gay got a chance to join Murray State's football team as a preferred walk-on kicker.

CHICAGO - On the court, Andrew Harrison is an intense competitor - a Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or Deandre Liggins type. Off the court, he's just as intense and not afraid to voice his opinion. Not only did the future Kentucky point guard say that he though the McDonald's All-American Game - he had 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting,  four assists, two rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes in Wednesday's game here - was a more prestigious event than the upcoming Jordan Brand Classic, but he's already tossing verbal barbs at Louisville.  He admitted he had picked Louisville to reach the Final Four, but then told media members, "I hope Michigan wins (the national title)

This could be the day that Kentucky's 2013-14 basketball roster starts taking a more definite shape. From the time UK's season ended with a NIT loss at Robert Morris, speculation has been rampant about who will - and who will not - be on John Calipari's team next season. Calipari has seven incoming freshmen - Aaron and Andrew Harrison, James Young, Marcus Lee, Derek Willis, Dakari Johnson and Julius Randle - that will definitely be on the roster. That leaves six more available scholarships.

HARRODSBURG — Elisabeth Goth is happiest where the horses are. Never mind the news business or the film production business, both of which have figured prominently in her life in recent years. Goth is in her element in the show ring, making strides toward another world championship with another promising horse. That’s just what the Marion County-based owner/exhibitor was doing Wednesday night at the Mercer County Fair & Horse Show, where she rode Harley Rally to a victory in the adult three-gaited pleasure class in their final trial before the World’s Championship Horse Show next month in Louisville.

Kentucky coach John Calipari said he gave freshman Archie Goodwin  "the information, what was out there, what we were told" before Goodwin put his name into the NBA draft. "We sat down and talked to him and he came back and said he wanted to put his name in the draft and we said, 'Great, let's go for it,'" Calipari said Wednesday. "I'm not going to sit here and give you everything I said or my opinion because I don't think, it's fair but they get everything they need and whatever decision they make - I've been on the phone right now with probably five or six NBA teams about Archie.
