AARP met Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Generations Center. Don Rose conducted the meeting in the absence of Colista Ledford. He also led the pledge to the flag. Wilma Ballard said the blessing and the prayer for others before a potluck meal was served. Forty members and guests took part in the meal. The Rockers, Willard Richie, Zoe Fields, Jean Pasley, Bonnie Biggerstaff, Linda Jordan and Holly Blevins, provided the entertainment. New officers were reported on from the nominating committee by Jean Vaughn and voted on. Officers are president Paul Blackwell, vice president Jim Crowell, secretary Jean Vaughn, treasurer Don Rose and program chairwoman Janet Rose.

The Backroom Bluegrass Band provided entertainment for members and guests at the May meeting of Chapter 632, AARP, held at The Generations Center. Composed of Bill Johnson, Walt Johnson, Jane Johnson, Pat Soister and Dan Pence, the band played several selections including "Good Morning, America," "Ghosts Along the Line," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "I Saw the Light," "I'll Fly Away" and "Let It Shine. " The band was introduced by Colista Ledford. Don Rose led the Pledge of Allegiance and Wilma Ballard gave the invocation.

The Winchester AARP met at the Generation Center April 24 at 6 p.m. Calista Ledford conducted the meeting. Wilma Bradford gave the prayer before the potluck dinner. She remembered Lena Brashear and Eva Taulbee, both hospitalized, and Ruby Bosco's family in the loss of Ruby. Wilma and Al Yeager were recognized for having birthdays in April. Malcolm and Thelma Stabley were recognized for their 60th wedding anniversary. The AARP tax experts were recognized and invited to attend the meeting.

AARP met Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Generations Center. Paul Blackwell, president, conducted the meeting. Kenny Speaks was the guest speaker. He entertained the group with funny stories and beautiful songs. He also gave the blessing before the potluck dinner. Forty members and guests attended. Birthdays for January and February were recognized: Irene Lowry, Gladys Hammonds, Dorothy Moberly, Garland and Gerri Roe, Herman Cubbison, Colista Ledford and Jean Pasley. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kohl were recognized for their 62nd wedding anniversary in January.

AARP met March 26 at the Generations Center at 6 p.m. The meeting was conducted by president Paul Blackwell. Don Rose led the Pledge of Allegiance. Wilma Ballard led the group in prayer before the potluck dinner. Forty-two members and guests were present. Rose read a story by Joseph Rupsis, "Calm on the Pacific Ocean. " Birthdays were celebrated by Jim Crowell, June Curtis and Joseph Rupsis. Two new members were present, Mary Lisle and Jeanette Star. Visitors present were Arline and Clair Hunter, Valerie Hunt and Jerry Ferguson.

AARP met Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Generations Center. The regular potluck dinner was held with 45 in attendance. Audrey King and Carolyn Steagall were recognized for their October birthdays. Wilma Ballard gave the prayer for others and the blessing for the meal. There were a few reports and then the monthly auction was held. All the money from this and any other fundraisers during the year will be donated to different charities at Christmas. Trick-or-treating Trick-or-treating will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Halloween Main-IA will also be taking place downtown and local businesses will be handing out candy. AARP to meet The local chapter of the AARP will meet at the Generations Center, 32 Meadow St., at 6 p.m. Thursday.

TODAY - Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation, in conjuction with Winchester Civitan, will host annual Easter egg hunt, 10 a.m., at College Park. The event is for children ages 12 and under and is a free community event. - Volunteer training from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Clark County Public Library. Local volunteer options will also be presented. Volunteers must be 14 and up or be with a parent or responsible adult. Pre-registration is required.
