Dear Editor, I again write and open with lines to the First Amendment of the United States' Constitution. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. " It is correct that the framers of our constitution did not write the line, "separation of church and state," but the language they used is definitely clear.

The first federal court decision to address the legality of warrantless eavesdropping on the telephone and Internet conversations of U.S. citizens caused quite a stir when it was handed down Aug. 17. In that case, ACLU v. National Security Agency, U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor of the Eastern Michigan District said that the Terrorism Surveillance Program violated the First and Fourth amendments to the Constitution, ran afoul of the Foreign...

Dear Editor, Spring break time is here again and with it the usual display of nudity and drunkenness in the "hot spots" around the country. Some of it is highlighted on national TV. And as usual some of the TV programs consult with some of the so-called behavioral experts in an effort to explain this wild and wacky behavior. The experts are analyzing the wrong people. They should be analyzing the parents. I can't believe that the parents are proud of their children's behavior.

Dear Editor, When I was raising my children and contemplated a decision I had to make relative to their upbringing, I often made the decision based on "what would my father have done?" Because he died before my children were grown, I couldn't ask him for advice, so I had to resort to the time tested method of determining what he would do based on what he told or allowed me to do or prohibited me from doing. When I hear the liberal politicians and the ACLU lawyers argue that we can't determine original intent of the framers of the Constitution as it relates to issues such as "separation of church and state," the wording of which is not found in that document, I realize the lack of common sense in those individuals we have elected to establish law, and also some of those who use the law in the pursuit of justice.

Dear Editor: In 1870, President Ulysses S. Grant declared Christmas day to be a federal holiday. The word Christmas means Christ's mass. It was not made a national holiday to celebrate the coming of winter or any other historical event. It was and is the day set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus. No matter how we celebrate it, be it with rituals deriving from pagan times or simple nativity scenes, it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. Those who say there is no conspiracy to abolish the true meaning of Christmas and the belief in a God are blind to a reality.

Dear Editor: Liberal Democrats such as Roger Bowman have yet to come to the realization that the "Silent Majority" of this country has spoken. The only alternative for liberals now is to continue criticizing our president for the so-called loss of rights that they are experiencing. The rights that the Democrats cry about are abortion, gay marriage, the atheists' agenda, removing Christ from Christmas, and "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, taking the minute of silent prayer from schools, removing the Ten Commandments from public places, trying to have "In God We Trust" removed from our currency, teaching all religious histories in schools except Christianity, and not treating terrorists and criminals with more compassion than our own military.

Dear Editor, It seems such a shame that a person cannot put their own opinion in our daily paper without people trying to tell her how "wrong" her ideas are. Is this what is meant by "free speech?" First of all, I do know my Ten Commandments - not just the first three. As a matter of fact, we recited them in our classroom back when I was in school. Of course that was back in the day when we, as children, were never taught NOT to believe in God. Secondly, I was a school teacher myself for several years, and yes, the Darwin Theory was discussed in the older grades.

Dear Editor: Well, it looks like the ACLU is yet again finding a way to play God. I know that they don't believe in God but I don't remember having an election to allow them to kill me if I should become disabled or handicapped. I thought that the laws were made to serve and protect the citizens of this country, not kill them. Terri Schiavo is not hooked up to any kind of breathing machine and she is not brain-dead. She is handicapped or disabled and cannot feed herself or talk for herself.

Curtis G. Brock | December 18, 2008
By Curtis G. Brock, Pastor First of all, let me take the opportunity to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. In this time of being politically correct, I choose to be just that, so that's why I say, "Merry Christmas" not the less threatening greetings of "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings. " Let's keep Christ where He belongs ? in Christmas. Don't "X" Him out! For the day we celebrate is really not about that "jolly ole fat man in a red suit, flying around in his reindeer powered sleigh" but about the "Christ-child" being virgin born in Bethlehem's manger.

With the signing of a bill that allows historical documents to be displayed on public grounds, the Ten Commandments could soon return to the Kentucky State Capitol. Surrounded by a score of Democrats and Republican lawmakers in the Capitol Rotunda Monday, Gov. Ernie Fletcher signed a bill that paves the way for a six-foot tall monument to return. At Monday's ceremony, several county officials who have recently been embroiled in Ten Commandment litigation accompanied Fletcher.
