Lois Pike has had three church homes in her life, and she says all have been very special houses of worship to her. A native of Forkland, she grew up a Baptist. She and her family went to Pleasant Run Baptist Church in the Forkland area. Later on, Pike, who attended the old Forkland School and then graduated in 1976 from Boyle County High School, went to Alum Springs Church of God along with her family. In addition to worshipping there, she also played behind the scenes roles for more than two decades at the WDFB Christian radio station owned by the church's pastor, now retired, the Rev. Don Drake, and his wife, Mildred.

Under construction from 2000-2003, Brooks Place opened its doors to residents in 2004, and it is where many Winchester retirees find comfortable living. Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning Commission held a workshop Wednesday to review recent input from the community about the proposed Comprehensive Plan. "The commissioners did talk about development policies for the property surrounding the proposed connector road, but they did not accept specific language," said Director Paula Bary. She said she will fulfill their request for guidance on more specific language, drafting it by next week.
