Garrard County had to slug it out to down Clay County 15-14 in last week's opener. Now the Golden Lions are going to have to show some more of that toughness against Anderson County in Saturday's Bob Allen Pigskin Classic at Danville. “I liked our determination and grit. I feel like our defense did an outstanding job for the vast majority of the night. When we did have a breakdown, we adjusted quickly and learned from our mistakes,”¿Garrard coach Mark Scenters said of last week's win. “I felt that our young men responded well at critical times, particularly in the third and fourth quarters.

HARRODSBURG - In every conceivable way, Anderson County outplayed Mercer County on Friday night. The Bearcats scored on five of their first six possessions, led by 27 points at the half and routed the host Titans 48-7. “They got after us, they whipped us, they outcoached us, everything. There's not much you can say about it,” Mercer coach Chris Pardue said. “We've got to go in and re-evaluate how we're coaching and what were coaching and a lot of things.” Anderson rolled up 417 yards of offense thanks to a huge night from quarterback Zach Carmichael.

West Jessamine running back Devin Taylor couldn't have done much more to help the Colts' cause on Friday night as he ran for 324 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-39 losing effort against Anderson County. “That heart that our kids showed, to continue to battle back, and to fight and to claw and have an opportunity at the end (was amazing),” West coach Graham Heasley said. The game paled in comparison to last year's 72-18 thrashing that the Bearcats dealt. Heasley said his team had come a long way from a year ago when it struggled to even be competitive to Friday night, when it played Anderson County as well as any team had all season.

East Jessamine softball's recent trip to Bowling Green for the Greenwood Border Battle was a tough one, to say the least, with a 1-3 tournament record leaving the Jaguars licking their wounds. On Monday, with 13-3 Anderson County in town, East responded for head coach Tom Hamm and his daughter, junior Haylee Hamm, hours after they left the funeral of a loved one in a 11-9 win. East collectively hit .379, which was made up of 11 hits, a home run and a slew of doubles. The Jags also took their share of hits early in the game, allowing eight runs through the fifth inning, but with what the team allowed on the defensive end, they made up for with their bats as the game reached its conclusion.
