After a successful 4-2 mark over the weekend at the Woodford County Invitational and a win over Anderson County on Monday, the Lady Colts' volleyball team improved to 18-5 - the programs best record since 2008. West played six matches in two days at the invitational. It opened with a 2-0 (25-18, 25-6) loss to Boone County, it bounced back with a 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) win over East Carter on Friday night. Saturday brought a 2-0 (25-21, 25-19) win over GRC; a 2-0 (25-19, 25-23) loss to former district rival Lexington Catholic; a 2-0 (25-20, 25-18)

Door broken at business HARRODSBURG - Police were called to the Turpin Masonry on Marimon Avenue on April 3 when it was discovered that someone had broken a glass door and removed property. Willie Turpin reported to police that a non-functional 2000 Yamaha YZ80 dirt bike, blue and white in color and valued at about $1,500, had been removed. The door will cost an estimated $750 to replace.    Man leads police on chase SALVISA - A man attempted to flee from police at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, resulting in a pursuit ending in Anderson County.

The Lincoln County girls suffered their first loss of the year Thursday, dropping a 56-46 home decision to Anderson County. Emily Fox scored 22 points for the Patriots (3-1), who trailed 26-20 at the half and 43-33 after three quarters.  Kourtney Belcher and Tiandra Hocker scored five points each for Lincoln. J.T. Long hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season and pitched his Mercer County team to a win Thursday as the Titans defeated Anderson County 6-3 in their season opener at Harrodsburg. Long, whose walk-off home run gave Mercer (1-0) the win in the 12th Region championship game last season, homered in the first inning, and Mercer took control of the game with a four-run fourth inning. Long allowed three hits and no earned runs in six innings on the mound. “J.T. pitched a very good ballgame in his first outing,” Mercer coach Jeremy Shope said.

Danville rallied after a slow start but couldn't overtake Anderson County in a 25-10, 25-19 loss Monday at Lawrenceburg. Danville (1-9) led the second game 10-8 before Anderson (10-8) recovered with five straight points. The Lady Admirals were still within 16-13 but got no closer. "The second set was a lot more of what we're capable of," Danville coach Scott Johnson said. "We came out with a lot more energy, and one block we had by Candice Taylor seemed to ignite that energy a lot more.

The ninth-ranked Mercer County boys completed their regular-season schedule with a 4-0 victory over Anderson County on Wednesday at Harrodsburg. Mason Angel scored two goals for Mercer (17-3-1). Angel scored once in each half, both off assists from Alex Bosse. Daniel Steele scored off an assist from Landon Souder in the first half, and Matt Gammon, playing for the first time in eight games, capped the scoring with a 35-yard shot in the second half. Anderson (9-9) became the eighth shutout victim this season for Mercer, which ends the season on a four-game winning streak.

SALVISA - A Harrodsburg man died early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 127, according to the Mercer County Sheriff's Department. Calvin Lee Wiley III, 54,  lost control of his vehicle near the Family Affair Restaurant in Salvisa near Anderson County, Mercer County Chief Deputy Scott Elder said this morning.  Wiley's vehicle ran off Louisville Road and into a concrete culvert. Elder did not know what type of vehicle Wiley was driving. Anderson and Mercer county officials responded to a passerby's 911 call about 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
