Lindsey Edwards turned an unassisted double play to allow Boyle County to escape a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning and defeat Anderson County 4-3 Wednesday at Lawrenceburg. Anderson (1-2) had loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning when Edwards caught a line drive at shortstop, then tagged third base to double up the lead runner and preserve the win for Boyle (3-2). “It was a great heads-up play by Lindsey, a senior,” Boyle coach Brian Deem said. “To see her make that play sent a great vibe through the girls.” The Rebels scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead after Anderson had jumped in front with an unearned run in the first.

It wasn't exactly the way either coach wanted the game to go, but both Mark Peach of Anderson County and Mark Scenters of Garrard County had reason to at least be pleased with Saturday's game in the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic. Zach Carmichael, who was named the game's most valuable player, threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns to lead Anderson to a hard-fought 24-16 victory at Admiral Stadium in a matchup of teams that both won regional championships last year. “We will take it. It was ugly at times, but Garrard is big and physical and we had to do some things to hang on to win the game,” said Peach.

Danville overcame four unearned runs to defeat Pulaski County 7-4 on Monday at Somerset. The 14th-ranked Admirals (3-0) made the most of seven hits to defeat the Maroons (0-2), one of three other 12th Region teams receiving votes in the preseason coaches' poll. They took a 5-2 lead with three runs in the fifth inning, then tacked on two runs in the seventh inning. Pulaski's runs were the result of two Danville errors. “We need to shore up our bunt coverages ... but it was a good game ... another team that could be in contention in the regional tournament come the end of the year,” Danville coach Paul Morse said.
