HARRODSBURG - The time has come for Mercer County to stretch its legs. The Titans have been largely getting by on the basics in their three games so far this season, but coach Chris Pardue said they're itching to do more, and he's ready to let them. So as they prepare for their game Friday against Anderson County, they're also practicing a few things that weren't in the playbook when the season began. “We're at the point right now where we're trying to add a few new wrinkles,” Pardue said.

“East week on three! One, two, three, East week!” And with that, West Jessamine headed for the locker room trying to move past a 72-18 thrashing at Anderson County. The loss was the Colts' most lopsided of the season and biggest loss since a 77-0 loss to Lexington Catholic in 2007. The loss on Friday dropped West to 0-8 on the year with only East Jessamine (5-2) and Woodford County (4-3) remaining on its schedule. West was never in Friday's game, trailing by 21 after the first quarter.

Following its upset loss to rival West Jessamine, East Jessamine suffered its worst loss of the season on Friday by losing to Anderson County 50-16. The Jaguars defense gave up a season-high 50 points and allowed 389 yards, 346 of which were through the air. “I told the kids all week we just had to play really good pass defense,” East coach Mike Bowlin said. “We tried something that we've had in our repertoire all year long to play some man-to-man coverage. I never dreamt they would out run us that bad on the deep routes ... it was just one of those nights where it all fell apart in the secondary.” East (5-4 overall, 2-3 district)

HARRODSBURG - When Lee Anderson goes to trial for threatening Judge Darren Peckler, it will take place in Anderson County, probably in February or March. That was the news from a meeting Friday between Special Judge Thomas P. Jones, Commonwealth's Attorney Richie Bottoms and Anderson's public defender, Travis Thompson. The exact trial date for the threat case won't be set until after Dec. 9, when Anderson will be resentenced for the 2006 murder and robbery of retired teacher Louise Pulliam.

Cate Guthrie called Boyle County's 25-16, 25-15 season-opening loss to visiting Anderson County on Tuesday just a typical first game from a young team. “Anderson¿County came out and they were ready to go. They kept the momentum, they kept the quick pace and they kept things moving forward,”¿the Boyle coach said. “And when we'd have a pass, we might struggle with our set. If our set was there, we'd struggle with our hitting. We just couldn't pull it all together tonight. We just couldn't execute.” The Rebels (0-1)

The George Rogers Clark boys' soccer team inched closer to a win, but remained winless on the season following a 2-1 loss to Anderson County Tuesday night at the Cardinal Soccer Complex. Clark coach Greg Dyk was pleased with his team's outing, but said defensive lapses were costly. "Our possession was better and we were more organized with our attack, but we are still making too many defensive mistakes," he said. Reese Benson agreed with Dyk's assessment of the contest.
