One might guess that ending up at the pound was the worse thing that could happen to a puppy. Guess again. “We heard whimpering,” Wes Enderlin, 17, from Danville said. “My friend and I were walking by McDonald's and we heard this sound and it was coming from the Dumpster. It was a puppy. We wrapped it up, but it was shivering so bad ... It was having a hard time breathing, too. It was nearly dead.” Enderlin called animal control about 4 p.m. Monday after rescuing the puppy from the Dumpster.

LANCASTER - Garrard County officials are investigating uses for a recently purchased 5-acre plot of land in Lancaster. The Fiscal Court approved the $20,000 purchase of the land off Baker Avenue and Doty Lane in a 4-1 vote this week, in which Magistrate Doan Adkinson was the sole dissenting vote. Now, a new animal shelter, emergency operations center and road department storage are all being discussed as possible future fixtures on the property. Judge-Executive John Wilson said county officials discovered the land was for sale while looking for potential locations for the new animal shelter for which they recently received a $100,000 grant.

LANCASTER - Garrard County officials are still looking for a place to build a new county animal shelter after the Fiscal Court rejected a plan Monday to move it to the fairgrounds. The Garrard County Fair Board preliminarily agreed to give the county land for the shelter at the back of the fairgrounds if the county would provide funds to pay off the fair board's $183,600 loan with Whitaker Bank, then accept repayment from the fair board at 0 percent interest. Part of the money to pay off the bank would have to come from the county's hospital debt-service fund.

City not wasting money Dear Editor, If Debbie Rose would do more homework on payroll taxes, she would find that some workers pay both the county and city. Here are a few other communities that have both: Versailles/Woodford County; Georgetown/Scott County; Frankfort/Franklin County and Paris/Bourbon County. The city did not buy the land from David Cantrell for the school board. The school board bought the land for the new high school. Some people say we wasted money building the indoor pool.
