Cynthia Ann Posey Sears, 77, wife of Charles Frank Sears, died on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at her home on Hickory Hill Drive. She was born on Jan. 25, 1933, in Ion, Ark., the daughter of the late Estelle Posey and the late Willa Mae Hunt Dhane. She was a homemaker. Surviving are a son, Gordon Gibson, and daughters Helen Nichols and Donna Nowacki. Interment will be in Kindell Cemetery, Clarksville, Ark. Betts & West Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

CONWAY, Ark. - Beth Faulkner and Sally Faulkner tallied first-half goals as Centre College beat host Hendrix College 2-0 in women's field hockey Sunday. Beth Faulkner scored off an assist from Teresa Johnstone while Sally Faulkner had an unassisted goal off a rebound. Centre goalkeeper Alyssa Havens had six saves. Both teams had 11 shots.

Members of the Central Elementary School BETA club spearheaded a drive to collect cans of green beans for the Ark of Mercy Church Thanksgiving Day dinner. Timothy Wayne Everman II, 29, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at his home. Timothy was born in Fayette County on April 1, 1981 to Connie Byrd Hensley and the late Timothy W. Everman.   He was an automotive maintenance technician and attended the Ark of Mercy Church of God. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a stepfather, Paul Hensley of Winchester; four brothers, Brian Thomas Johnson, Joey (Sara) Johnson, Adam (Beverly) Everman and Christopher Lee Hensley; four sisters, Shelly (Jamie)

Annie Marie Lively Hatfield, 87, of Russellville, Ark., died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, Ark. The daughter of Jack and Martha Turner Lively, she was born June 12, 1925 in Dunlap, Tenn. She married Jack Hatfield on March 15, 1945, in Rossville, Ga. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Russellville and Central Baptist Church in Winchester. She enjoyed knitting, church activities, and her Sunday school class.

Generations fundraiser a hit To the editor, On behalf of the Generations Center, we would like to express a heartfelt “Thank you” to Vanessa Rogers, the Rev. Gerry Johns, the Journeymen and everyone who performed at the benefit variety show at First Christian Church last weekend. We are especially grateful to Bob Cowen, who organized the show. All the performances were exceptional and everyone who attended had a wodnerful time. God bless the many individuals who contributed their time, talent and expertise for this amazing event.

Robert Butler Claypoole Jr., 80, of Winchester, husband for 58 years to Mary Francis Hatton Claypoole, passed away Monday at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. A native of Winchester, he was born March 6, 1931, to the late Robert Butler Claypoole Sr., and Stella Margaret Estes Claypoole.   He retired as captain after 24 years of service with the Winchester Police Department; he was also the owner of Claypoole Tree Trimming Service, a United States Army veteran and a member of the Ark of Mercy Church of God.   In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Daniel Lynn Claypoole and Elaine Claypoole Stewart; siblings, Bill R. Claypoole Sr., Donnie Claypoole, Elihue Claypoole, Johnny Claypoole, Clarence Claypoole and Jean Ewen; grandchildren, Robert “Robbie” Claypoole, Chaplin Daniel L. (Leah)

Grant County will be giving a 75-percent property-tax break to the “Ark Encounter” theme park that will soon be built there. This is in addition to the approximately $47 million tax exemption granted by the state. While, as a Christian, I support this venture and see it as a viable business idea, I see no reason to grant them an exception over other businesses in the tax code. The claim is that the Ark Emcounter will create jobs so the tax break will feed back into the community; therefore everyone benefits and thus the tax exemption is justified.

A Richmond man charged with trying to set fire to the former Ark of Mercy Church of God pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning. Simeon T. Mullins, 20, was originally facing felony third-degree arson charges following the fire this summer. A month ago, the grand jury indicted Mullins for attempted third-degree arson, a misdemeanor, and sent the case back to Clark District Court. Police said Mullins got into an argument with his girlfriend, who lived nearby. During the argument, Mullins allegedly lit some garbage and threw it into the basement of the vacant church.
