Donations from throughout Clark County have made a Thanksgiving meal possible for 500 families.For the past 12 years, Ark of Mercy Church of God has hosted Harvest Sunday, a special Thanksgiving service and food box giveaway. “They get the spiritual food, and the Thanksgiving meal,”¿Janice Claypoole, Ark of Mercy senior minister, said. Volunteers from the church pass out coupons at local housing projects and to other families in need, which can be redeemed after morning or evening services the Sunday before Thanksgiving.Boxes include turkey, green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls and cranberry sauce.

Ventriloquist show benefits homeless Christian Nashville recording artist and ventriloquist Brent Vernon will perform at Winchester First United Methodist Church Friday night at 7:30. The Great Giveaway! show is a benefit for the Clark County Homeless Coalition. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children 3-12, and group discounts are available by calling the TeenFire youth pastor, Derek Hickman, at 749-3642. Clarification A story about arson charges in Thursday's edition did not say where the fire was. The fire occurred at Lowe's in Winchester.

Josh Tackett and Daniel Ralston have achieved the rank of Boy of Valor in the Ark of Mercy P.F.C. Boys Club. The Boy of Valor rank is comparable to the level of Eagle Scout. Leaders Joel Ralston and Linville Palmer were able to achieve the rank of Men of Valor. Medals were officially awarded at the latest state rendezvous by representatives of the Church of God International Youth Department. Josh Tackett was unable to be present for the ceremony because he is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Parents announce birth Braylee Elizabeth Leffew Kyla and Bobby Leffew of Perryville announce the birth of their daughter, Braylee Elizabeth Leffew, 6:45 p.m. May 1 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and measured 20 inches. Maternal grandparents are Michael and Ramona Neal of Danville. Paternal grandparents are Chuck and Bernita Leffew of Danville. Great-grandparents are Deetress Neal of Lepanto, Ark., Joyce Langston of Osceola, Ark., and Elizabeth Leffew of Danville.

No. 10 Syracuse, 30-6, faces unranked Providence, 25-8, in an all-Big East semifinal. Dr. Howard A. Thompson, humorist, will be the speaker at the annual meeting of the Clark County Homemakers Association at Calvary Christian Church, Redwing Drive. A former resident of Winchester, Dr. Thompson is a professor at Georgetown College.

James A. Hisle, 90, husband of Elizabeth Baber Hisle, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Clark Regional Medical Center. James was affectionately knows as “Sweet Pickle” and respected by many in his life on this earth for his deep love for our Lord Jesus Christ and his kind and gentle disposition. A native of Clark County, he was the son of the late Henry and Hattie Hisle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jim D. Hisle and Ronald E. Hisle; grandchildren, Justin Hisle, Kelly Brandenburg, Debbie Hisle, Jimmy Hisle, Chrissie Hopkins and Michelle Brushaber; brothers, Jackie Hisle, Raymond Hisle and Earl Hisle; special friends, Marlee McFadden, Kaylee Rogers and Debi Hisle; and many great grandchildren.
