LEXINGTON - A Mercer County man has been charged with attempted rape and assault stemming from a September attack on a University of Kentucky student. Christopher Releford, 32, contacted Mercer County police on Sept. 7, claiming he had been assaulted after he stopped to help a stranded motorist in Salvisa. He reported to police that the suspect had asked for his wallet, stabbed him and attempted to cut his face before driving away. “We found holes in that story from point A,” Mercer County Chief Deputy Sheriff Scott Elder said.

Danville police responded to a disturbance call on Colonel Drive about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday. A Centre College student told police an ex-boyfriend, Hayden Williams, 19, of Sonora, entered her Lamotte Hall dorm room, according to dispatch. He then allegedly assaulted her, refused to leave or to allow the victim to leave. Williams was initially identified as William T. Hayden by police. Danville Assistant Police Chief Tom Bustle said the victim sustained minor injuries from the incident.

Danville police responded to a disturbance call on Colonel Drive about 12:40 a.m. today. A Centre College student told police an ex-boyfriend, Hayden Williams, 20, of Sonora, entered her dorm and assaulted her, then refused to leave. She had minor injuries. Williams, who had left the premises, was picked up in Sonora by Kentucky State Police. He is charged with assault, burglary and kidnapping and will be transported to the Boyle County Detention Center later today. More information will be included in tomorrow's paper.

A Winchester man went to jail Monday night after he allegedly assaulted another person after being told to leave his home. Winchester Police were called to 511 N. Main St. shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, according to police records. The resident, Marcus Haggard, told officers that he had allowed 24-year-old Donnie Marvin Brown and two others to stay with him, but told them to leave. “It looks like there were some people staying at the victim's residence and a fight broke out,” Winchester Police Capt.

A number of new details from an Oct. 21 fatal house fire emerged during a court hearing Wednesday, including that the victim was assaulted prior to the fire and that there is a warrant for a second suspect in the blaze. During a preliminary hearing for arson suspect Aaron Spencer, 23, of 17 Phillips Court, in district court Wednesday, Kentucky State Police Detective Jeremy Hamm said they have an active warrant for Brandon Guy, who was also in Kenneth Payton's home prior to the fire.

STANFORD - A Lincoln County grand jury has indicted a Stanford man on the charge he shook a 6-week-old infant. The infant's mother has also been indicted for complicity to assault. Lucas Vinyard, 29, of 108 Star Ave. in Stanford, is accused of shaking the infant daughter of Kisha Gosser on Aug. 17. He has been charged with first-degree assault. Police had not previously said anything about charges against Gosser, of 124 Star Ave., but the grand jury indicted her on one count of complicity to first-degree assault.

Wednesday's preliminary hearing for Damarintae S. Fischer, who is charged with severely burning another man with boiling water, was postponed after additional charges were filed against Fischer and two more suspects were arrested in the case over the weekend. Fischer, 23, of Danville was initially charged with first-degree assault for allegedly dumping scalding water on Mdre Whitehead on Oct. 10 in an altercation over a stolen gaming console at a Sixth Street residence.  As the investigation continued, additional charges of kidnapping and robbery were placed against Fischer.

A Danville man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly poured scalding water on another man, burning him severely. Damarintae S. Fischer, 23, was charged with first-degree assault and is being held in the Boyle County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond. The victim, MDre J. Whitehead, 20, of Danville, was transferred from Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for additional treatment of severe burns to his face and upper torso.

HARRODSBURG - An arrest warrant has been issued for former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart after a Nicholasville tour bus operator alleged Hart assaulted him at last weekend's Terrapin Hill music festival in western Mercer County. Cecil “C.J.” Curtsinger swore out the complaint on Saturday, alleging that Hart took him to the back of the bus, threw him down, hit him and cursed him before a performance by the Mickey Hart Band on Sept. 7. A Mercer judge signed an arrest warrant for Hart on a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault on Monday.
