Jennifer Cooper sings a selection from "Guys & Dolls" from George Rogers Clark High School's spring musical, "Silhouettes of Broadway. " The musical, created and arranged by Mary Grogan and Steve Crosby, will be presented at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium at GRC.

Dec. 19, 1959 The pupils of Ruth Taylor's kindergarten will present their annual Christmas candlelight program on Sunday in the Winchester High School auditorium. Mrs. Ed Hunter was the guest speaker Tuesday at the December meeting of the Women of the First Presbyterian Church at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth P. Griffith have purchased a residence at 15 Linden Ave. from Mr. and Mrs. William Smith. The transaction was handled by Mrs. Helen K. Thomas, realtor.

May 26, 1962 Charles R. Gatson, 2 Ratliff Court, a recent graduate of the Kentucky School of Embalming, Louisville, has accepted a position with the Scobee Funeral Home. Gatson attended public schools here and was graduated from Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, W.Va. He is a native of Clark County, and the grandson of Grant R. and Susie Bush Gatson. He served three years with the U.S. Army. The telephone company today announced the establishment of a new time-temperature service under the sponsorship of the Winchester Bank.

The auditorium at East Jessamine High School usually sits quiet and empty on the weekends when school’s not in session. But the room was anything but quiet and certainly not empty last Saturday afternoon as residents of Jessamine County participated in the annual Jessamine County Black History Celebration. The auditorium was full of spirit and enthusiasm, which radiated throughout the crowd in the forms of instrumental music, singing, readings and a skit. Members of various churches within the African-American church community in the county took turns showcasing their talents throughout the three-hour celebration.

Shakespeare’s midsummer dream will take the stage in Nicholasville a little closer to midwinter than originally planned. West Jessamine High School was supposed to put on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” last weekend, Nov. 10-13, but a routine fire inspection by a state official revealed parts of the set constituted a fire hazard and had to be removed from the school’s auditorium. The play has been postponed until Dec. 8-11 while students and staff work to make felled trees flame retardant.

Laura Kirkpatrick of Stanford, one of the top two finalists in "America's Next Top Model," knew all along that she didn't win, but she threw a belle-of the-ball party anyway. Well-wishers, many of them dressed in black T-shirts with hot pink writing that proclaimed "Laura is my America's Next Top Model," filled the Lincoln County High School auditorium Wednesday night to watch the final show of the competition that offered a chance for models shorter than 5 feet and 7 inches an opportunity to win a contract with Wilhelmina.

Do you remember watching movies in the old Danville Cinemas 4 in Danville Manor Shopping Center? If you do, you might want to check it out now. Things definitely have changed. For example, where the concession stand was located now is a greeting center with the counter covered with handouts and other literature, and the display cases that once held candy now are laden with gift items. The arcade has been replaced with a small, well-appointed seating area with a sofa and chairs.

Sanctus Real will headline the fifth Summer Slam concert July 11 at the George Rogers Clark High School auditorium. The event, sponsored by the Winchester Clark County Christians United Against Drugs, begins at 5 p.m. Other bands scheduled to perform include Tenth Avenue North and Too Many Drummers.
