April 4, 1959 FRANKFORT (AP) - Talbott Construction Company, Winchester, submitted an apparently low bid of $1,880,745 Friday for the construction work on the new Interstate Highway 75 in Boone County. The robust strains of "Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" will signal the opening of the 11th annual Lions Club Minstrel April 10 at the Winchester High School auditorium. The show will play three consecutive nights. Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Caudill have purchased a residence at 20 Cook Ave. from Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wilson.

Sanctus Real will headline the fifth Summer Slam concert July 11 at the George Rogers Clark High School auditorium. The event, sponsored by the Winchester Clark County Christians United Against Drugs, begins at 5 p.m. Other bands scheduled to perform include Tenth Avenue North and Too Many Drummers. Ketric Newell, the youth minister at Lifechurch.tv, is the featured speaker. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the show, and are available at Bethany Book Room and www.itickets.

Stamper recited "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer; Quinn recited "To An Athlete Dying Young" by A. E. Housman; and Ridgeway recited "I, Too" by Langston Hughes. The students practiced for about two weeks before the competition, learning presentation and performance skills.

Shakespeare’s midsummer dream will take the stage in Nicholasville a little closer to midwinter than originally planned. West Jessamine High School was supposed to put on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” last weekend, Nov. 10-13, but a routine fire inspection by a state official revealed parts of the set constituted a fire hazard and had to be removed from the school’s auditorium. The play has been postponed until Dec. 8-11 while students and staff work to make felled trees flame retardant.

May 26, 1962 Charles R. Gatson, 2 Ratliff Court, a recent graduate of the Kentucky School of Embalming, Louisville, has accepted a position with the Scobee Funeral Home. Gatson attended public schools here and was graduated from Greenbrier Military School, Lewisburg, W.Va. He is a native of Clark County, and the grandson of Grant R. and Susie Bush Gatson. He served three years with the U.S. Army. The telephone company today announced the establishment of a new time-temperature service under the sponsorship of the Winchester Bank.

Christmas parade winners named Heart of Danville announced the following winners of the 2004 Christmas Parade float contest. First-place winners received $100, second-place $50 and third-place $25.
