LANCASTER - The next time an ice storm or similar catastrophe hits the area, Garrard County will have some new equipment to deal with the cleanup. Garrard County Fiscal Court agreed Monday to buy a new backhoe to replace the old one, which was totaled in the ice storm. The magistrates also authorized buying some new chain saws. Judge-Executive John Wilson said the magistrates approved spending $65,400 out of road department funds for a 2008 John Deere backhoe. But that cost will be offset by a $30,000 insurance payment that the county got after its old backhoe was knocked out of commission for good.
