It was more about playing in dirt than planting flowers for Tyler Finney, left, and Kobe Bradley, who were sharing a garden spade to dig a hole for planting at the Generations Center's new rain garden behind the building, above. The rain garden is being constructed under the supervision of the Clark County Garden Club to remove rain water from the building and concrete drive. The concrete pad behind the building was heavily damaged from rain water and had to be replaced. Lalin Gentry, top right, carefully pours water on the plant that she and Abigail Rodriguez, right, planted in the rain garden.

Employees of Nicholasville’s cemetery crew unexpectedly hit a gas line while digging a new grave with a backhoe in Maple Grove Cemetery Thursday morning. No one was injured, but the Nicholasville Fire Department closed down the 400 and 500 block of North Main Street for about 10 minutes while firefighters and Delta Natural Gas Company employees checked out the line. The fire department received the call around 10:45 and came over to block the road because of the potential danger of fire, Nicholasville Fire Department Lt. Mark Stewart said.

Four businesses on North Second Street were evacuated Monday afternoon after natural gas and water lines were ruptured at a construction site, said Fire Chief Mike Thomas. Emergency workers were called to the site about 3:54 p.m. after a backhoe working on a parking lot adjacent to the old Kleckner body shop apparently struck the two utility lines, said Thomas. An old building was razed to make way for the parking lot. The inch-and-a-quarter natural gas line and water line were near the sidewalk where Lincoln County Ready Mix was subcontracting for NAC Heavy Highway, the general contractor of the parking lot work.

Dear Editor, As Perryville fire chief, I would like to take a few moments to thank the following for their help and assistance during the recent ice storm: The men and women of Perryville City and Boyle County Fire Department Station 2 worked countless hours for both the citizens of Perryville and the county residents in western Boyle County. With tree and limb removal in both the city and county, first responses to medical calls, fire calls, welfare checks on those who could not or chose not to leave, or delivering supplies to citizens in need - they spent days away from their families and their jobs.

JUNCTION CITY - The city may not pay family health insurance for employees next budget year, a move that would save the city more than $9,000. It is one of the handful of decisions that the city faces as it prepares its 2005-2006 budget. Mayor G.G. Harmon presented the budget Monday, and the city will meet again at 7 p.m. May 11 for another discussion. Public Works Director Tony Wesley and Police Chief Jimmy Gipson said losing family coverage would hurt the employees and could cause some employees to leave.

Dear Editor, I am writing this letter to show my support for Jamey Gay for mayor of Danville. Jamey has proven over the last 10 years that he is more than qualified to hold the office of mayor. Remember the “Ice Storm of 2009”? Mayor Pro-Tem Jamey Gay was in charge of the city. His leadership brought a city that was totally shut down back to one that was up and running quickly after that disaster. Jamey also cares about the upkeep and condition of the city’s cemeteries.
