The Danville girls' brief winning streak ended with a 3-0 loss to Bardstown on Monday night at Bardstown. Danville (4-5-1)¿entered the match having won back-to-back games for the first time this season, and the Admirals played Bardstown (8-1)¿to a draw in the first half before giving up three goals in the second. “We were very organized at back, (and) we absorbed a lot of pressure in the first half,” Danville coach J.D. Smith said. “In the second half our organization slipped a little bit, and maybe it was a little fatigue.

Daniel Lannum and Carson Coulter of Danville each went 3-0 Wednesday in a series of dual matches at Bardstown. Lannum pinned two opponents and won a decision in the 132-pound class. Coulter had two pins at 138 pounds and one at 145. Danville won two of its three matches. The Admirals defeated Nelson County 33-27 and Thomas Nelson 42-12 and lost to Anderson County 60-18. Shannon Murray scored a pair of goals Thursday as the Mercer County girls shut out visiting Bardstown 2-0. Murray got her first goal early in the first half, then scored again in the second half. Mercer improved to 9-4; Bardstown fell to 6-1-1. Scott County 7, Boyle County 0 - At Danville, No. 6 Scott (11-1)¿led 6-0 at halftime in a win over No. 18 Boyle (8-2-1)¿in the Little Caesars Classic at Rebel Stadium. “We kind of ran into a buzzsaw. We haven't seen a team with as much speed and physical presence on the field all year long,” Boyle coach Brian Deem said.

Hannah Harris and Chelsea Gill combined for 14 of the Boyle County girls' 19 points in the fourth quarter to help Boyle defeat Casey County 56-49 Tuesday night at Rebel Arena. Harris finished with 18 points and Gill had 17 points for Boyle (12-11). Gill had eight free throws and Harris had four in the fourth quarter. Harris also had a layup, Marlee Smith had a three-point play and Cami Holton scored from the paint down the stretch for Boyle, which had seen a 10-point halftime lead cut in half by the start of the fourth quarter.

BARDSTOWN - Bardstown scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and hand Burgin a 5-2 loss Saturday. All three runs scored by Bardstown (1-3) in that inning were unearned thanks to three Burgin errors. Josh Carey and Seth Trayner had two hits each for Burgin (1-4). Daniel Loane had one hit and one RBI, and Ian Powell and Justin Lay also had one hit each. The Bulldogs left runners on base in every inning. Losing pitcher Daniel Howard gave up four hits and struck out four in 4 1/3 innings, and Carey allowed two hits and struck out three in 1 2/3 innings.

Missy and Ernie Hutchins of Bardstown announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Amanda Gail Hutchins, to Charles B. Knoppe, the son of Peggy Baird of Winchester and Charles Knoppe of Bardstown. The wedding will take place Sept. 22 at Holy Trinity Church in Fredericktown, Ky. The bride will be given in marriage by her father and will wear a a silk gown with pearl sequins and a cathedral train. She will carry a bouquet of red and white roses. Rachel Burton of Bardstown is the maid of honor and Josh Buckman of Springfield, Ky., is the best man. Bridesmaids include Jennifer Boone and Kayla Lampkin of Bardstown.

James Douglas Hamilton, 42, of McKinney (formerly of Bardstown) died Friday, Dec. 23 in Lincoln County. A native of Bardstown, he was born Feb. 17, 1963 to the late James Robert and Imogene Oder Hamilton. He worked for Asplundh. Survivors include his wife, Freda Johnson Hamilton of McKinney; four brothers, Bobby, Ricky, David and Freddy Hamilton all of Bardstown; and four sisters, Rose Richardson, Gail Hamilton, and Wanda Parker all of Bardstown and by Peggy Mikulec of Danville.

Harmon-Girdley Leslie Marie Harmon and Christopher Louis Girdley were married June 3 at First Christian Church in Bardstown by the Rev. Jerry Mayes. Rebecca Case of Bardstown served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sara Chesser and Rebecca Knopp, both of Bardstown, Amanda Holt of Bloomfield, Brooke Stewart of Danville and Brooke Barnes of Louisville. Jack Riggs and Davey Girdley, brother of the groom, both of Bardstown, were best men. Groomsmen were Stevie Edelen, Travis Green, Mike King, Marcus Williams, Kyle Boblitt and Allen Harmon, brother of the bride, all of Bardstown.

The team of Nikki Coffey, Hannah Robertson, Hannah Harris and Logan Arnold teamed to set a meet record in the 3,200-meter relay Saturday to lead Boyle County at the Commodore Classic at Tates Creek in Lexington. Their time of 10 minutes, 12.42 seconds broke the Rebels' own record time of 10:15.61 set last season. Coffey and Arnold were on that team as well. The team of Kate Carman, Harris, Arnold and Tabitha Evans took second in the 1,600 relay (4:19.85). For the Boyle boys, Clint Hellyer was second in the 300 hurdles (42.43)

Kenny Young was a little disappointed by the way Danville played Thursday, even if he wasn't entirely surprised. Playing the only game of spring break week with something of a skeleton crew, the Admirals came out on the wrong end of an error-filled game at Troy Trumbo Field. They committed five errors in a three-inning span in which Bardstown scored all of its runs in its 11-6 victory, and Young, the Danville coach, said there were a few other mistakes as well from a lineup that was peppered with seventh- and eighth-graders but included a few veterans as well.

Montgomery County outscored host Mercer County 20-8 in the first period and rolled to an 81-63 victory in the championship game Sunday of the Farmers National Bank Fort Harrod Classic in Harrodsburg. Freshman Will Hager led Mercer with 20 points and was named to the all-tourney team. Tommy Craig added 10 points for the Titans. Bardstown 57, Boyle County 56 - Boyle took a 56-54 lead with 22 seconds to play on a goal by Aram Martin but Bardstown won the game when Cowherd hit his only 3-pointer of the game just before the final horn.

Shannon Murray scored three goals as the Mercer County girls defeated Pulaski County 4-0 in their regular-season finale Thursday at Harrodsburg. Samantha Travillian had two assists and Nikki Wilham had one assist on Murray's goals, which helped Mercer (12-5-1) record its eighth shutout victory and hand Pulaski (5-7-2) its fifth shutout loss. BARDSTOWN - A Lancaster man was killed Saturday when he lost control of his car.  According to Nelson County Deputy Coroner Brian Papenfuss, the driver, Donald Foster, 61, was unable to navigate a turn, which resulted in the car rolling over.  Police reports say the crasg occurred on Balltown Road in Nelson County and that Foster crossed the center line, striking an embankment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the car, William Thomas Metcalf, 51, of Bardstown, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown to the University of Louisville hospital with unknown injuries but was released the following day. It is unknown if the two men were wearing seat belts.

Kathleen B. Chaney, 62, of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, at her home.  She was born in Bardstown on Aug. 14, 1949, to the late Gordon Rudolph Blackman and Edith Shields Blackman. Survivors include two sons, John (Christina Wagers) Chaney of Winchester, and Jeff (Deanne) Chaney of Fishers, Ind.; a daughter, Patricia Chaney of Lexington; five grandchildren, Daniel Chaney, Meredith Chaney, Trinity Hodge, Autumn Hodge and Logan Hodge; one brother, Gordon Blackman Jr.; three sisters, Shelia Kilgore, Kim Wilson and Jackie Barmore.
