Lincoln County girls basketball senior Emily Fox added a final award to her career, as she was named to Kentucky's 2013 All-State Basketball Second Team. She was one of just five regional players named to an All-State team and the only one on the Second Team. The Austin Peay signee averaged 16.9 points in her senior season and surpassed 2,000 points in scoring to become Lincoln County's all-time leading scorer. Fox shot 43 percent from the field and 78.1 percent at the foul line and had 81 3-point goals this past season.

A series of games and activities this weekend in and around Kentucky School for the Deaf is one of the largest local fundraisers for a basketball team planning to compete this summer in the Deaf Olympics. The Derby weekend event features basketball, cornhole, poker and darts tournaments, with proceeds going to the USA Deaf Basketball team. A former KSD star is the team director, another is expected to play for the team, and KSD boys coach Mike Yance is an assistant coach and the team's fundraising coordinator.

March 25, 1988 George Rogers Clark High School girls basketball team opens up Sweet 16 play tonight riding a 10-game winning streak. The Lady Cardinals are ranked sixth in the state and after storming through the 40th District and 10th Region tourneys will open up state play against West Carter. MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) - Eight-year old DeAndra Anrig was lifted 100 feet in the air when an airplane snagged her kite line. Seven of the top 10 high school girls basketball teams in the final Associated Press poll are among the field of 16 teams that will play for a chance to win the state title.

He didn't think he was good enough to play basketball when he entered high school, but Valdin Kudic has become one of the most valuable players at Kentucky School for the Deaf. He has become a leader on an otherwise young KSD boys team, as well as an important part of the Colonels' inside game. As his high school basketball career nears an end, he said he's glad he decided to play and has enjoyed his three seasons in basketball - even this season when things haven't always gone so well for the Colonels.

HARRODSBURG - Players on every team - or at least every good team - say they're a family, but such pronouncements have a different ring among the Mercer County girls. The Mercer County girls roster is all wrapped up in family ties, with four players and two coaches connected through a series of relationships. Senior guard Carli Souder, sophomore guard Catheryne Claunch, seventh-grader guard Seygan Robins and seventh-grade forward Emmy Souder are part of a group of cousins, though they aren't all related to each other.

A staple of the Nicholasville-Jessamine County Parks and Recreation Department has been its sports programs. And for many years, its youth and adult basketball programs have called Nicholasville Elementary home. But because of renovations at NES, parks and recreation has turned to the community's past to continue its hoops programs as the Coolidge Building, located next to the school system's bus garage on Maple Street, is home to the recreation leagues. “We worked with the school board to access the Coolidge Building, and they were instrumental in getting it cleaned out and getting the floor ready, and we're playing games there now,” said NJCPR office manager Serita Taylor.

Basketball: Cougars wins two of three games The Conkwright Middle School boys basketball teams took two of three games against Nicholas County recently. The Cougars won the sixth-grade game 35-19, followed by a 44-33 victory in the seventh-grade contest. Nicholas County avoided the sweep with a 37-36 triumph in the eighth-grade contest. Editor's Note: This is one in a series of previews of area high school boys basketball teams. The Danville Christian boys are coming off their best record in school history at 17-11 and a third place in the Kentucky Christian School Athletic Association Class AA tournament. Now the Warriors are looking to build on that this season with a good chunk of returners back in the fold. “We have intentionally created a challenging regular season schedule, playing the best teams in the KCSAA,” coach Jeremy Tarter said.

HARRODSBURG - With an entirely new squad, the Mercer County boys took their lumps last year in a 9-22 season. Now coach Brian Britt is hoping those struggles will make his team better going into this year. “It was a completely new team. We took our bumps and bruises, it was very difficult to keep that team morale,” Britt said. “We won nine games lat year, so the fact we got through it has made us a better team, a better program.
