April 26, 1988 Clark County residents will be guests for a “County Day” celebration May 8 at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington. Admission to the park will be free. The George Rogers Clark High School softball team improved to 6-2 on the season with a pair of big wins at home over the weekend. Clark ripped Harrison County 20-4 Saturday as shortstop Jamey Perry led the way with a 5-5 effort, including two home runs. On Friday, the Lady Cardinals blasted Bath County 14-2. KENOVA, W.Va.

The George Rogers Clark boys track team opened the season by capturing the Mayor's Cup for the third straight year Saturday at Montgomery County. Mayors from Central and Eastern Kentucky were in attendance to present the trophy to the top area boys and girls track teams. Bath County took first-place honors in the girls competition, while Clark was second. In the final boys standings, Bath County was second, followed by Montgomery County and Powell County. Clark followed Bath in the girls' standings, while Montgomery was third and Powell County placed fourth in the meet.

Jan. 30, 1988 The George Rogers Clark Cardinals rolled to a 27-point win over Bath County. The Cardinals forced 23 turnovers from their opponent in its biggest point margin victory of the year. Helen Palmer attended the mid-year board meeting of National Extension Homemakers Council Inc. at the Radisson Hotel, Charlotte, N.C. Richard B. Kay became the first presidential candidate to set foot in Clark County since the 1940s. President Harry S Truman made a campaign stop here in 1948.

William “June” Reffitt Jr., 80, widower of Cordelia Reffitt, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Sunday Jan. 20, 2013, at the Clark Regional Medical Center. A native of Bath County, he was the son of the late William and Nannie Smyth Reffitt. Survivors include three sons, Clyde Scott Reffitt, Rodney Glynn (Rebecca) Reffitt and Harry Lynn Reffitt; two daughters, Clara Jane Montgomery and Virginia Marie (Keith) Ridener; one sister, Betty Gibson; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and two special dogs, Bear and Ralph.

George Rogers Clark girls basketball coach Robbie Graham is going back to the basics today following his team's 51-47 loss to Bath County Monday night in Owingsville. “We're going to get back to the basics in practice and start at ground zero,” the Clark coach said. The setback to the Lady Cats was the Lady Cardinals' seventh loss in the past nine games. Clark defeated Paris 81-39 last Friday, but couldn't keep the momentum going against Bath County after racing out to a 15-8 lead in the opening quarter.

Frances Stockdale Steverson Mixon, 78, widow of Leon Mixon, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Masonic Home of Louisville. She was born in Bath County on Feb. 8, 1934 to the late Harry and Rosa Lee Utterback Stockdale. She was a homemaker, a U.S. Army WAC veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in South Carolina. Survivors include her son, Michael Steverson of China; daughter and Son-in-Law, Deborah and Bev Anderson of Clark County; 4 grandchildren, Natalie Steverson and Nicholas Steverson of CO, Leslie Anderson of Frankfort and Kelsey (Justin)

Oct. 8, 1987 Cellular communications is not for everyone, but “it is a unique business tool.” That was the essence of remarks by Conrad Carney, a representative of Cellular One in Lexington and featured speaker at Wednesday's luncheon meeting of the Winchester Kiwanis Club. Carney stressed the value of time productivity, especially when one is traveling. Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Littleton, Parma, Ohio, will be weekend guests of her mother, Mrs. Bruce Ratliff, West Lexington Avenue, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Howard, Bath County.

Kyle Bolin may be the marquee name on the Lexington Catholic roster, but Mercer County coach Chris Pardue said his team can't get consumed with the Knights' quarterback when the teams open Class AAAA, District 5 play Friday in Harrodsburg. “You always worry about the Lexington Catholic passing game. They're very good at throwing the football,”¿he said. “But you can't just focus on that. They're an extremely good football team all around.” The No. 3 Knights (4-1) are coming off a 43-28 win over Madison¿Central last week.
