Members of the 4Bs Senior Adults Group from the First Baptist Church, 32 E. Lexington Ave., visited Beattyville Thursday, Nov. 2, for a fall outing.Beattyville, located 55 miles southeast of Winchester, is the county seat of Lee County and home of the Woolly Worm festival, one of the state's most popular fall events. Located on the forks of the Kentucky River, it was originally known as Taylor's Landing. In 1850 it was renamed Beatty for Samuel Beatty, an early settler and landowner and was incorporated as Beattyville in 1872.

William David Smallwood, husband of Amy Tipton Smallwood and the son of the late Robert Dale and Betty Baker Smallwood, was born in Richmond, Ind., on Oct. 20, 1967, and departed this life in Nicholasville on Jan. 20 at the age of 45 years and 3 months. In addition to his wife, Smallwood is survived by one son, Noah Gaithel Smallwood of Nicholasville; two brothers, Keith Smallwood of Beattyville and Freddie Joe Smallwood of Winchester; one sister, Angela Kay Smallwood of Winchester; three uncles, Jim Baker of Nicholasville, David Baker of Paris and Roscoe Pete Baker of Winchester; one aunt, Judy Royce of Winchester; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

STANFORD - The case against a man accused of shaking a 6-week-old girl has been waived to a Lincoln County grand jury. Lucas Vinyard, 29, of Star Avenue, waived his preliminary hearing last week. Vinyard allegedly shook the daughter of Kisha Gosser, on Aug. 17. Gosser's daughter suffered broken ribs and hemorrhages in its skull and eyes, according to an arrest citation. When Gosser took her daughter to Fort Logan Hospital, police were notified an injured infant had been admitted.

Ms. Janie Wise and Mr. Doug Wise of Winchester are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Matthew Wise, to Charity Johnson, daughter of William and Betty Phillips of Beattyville. The wedding will take place Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. The groom is a 2001 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and a member of the Army National Guard. The bride-to-be is a 2003 graduate of Lee County High School. Both are employed at EDS.
