The Nicholasville Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire, that nearly turned into a house fire at 113 Beechwood Drive Friday afternoon. “We had a car fire that rolled up under the eaves and got up into the attic,” Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Baker said. “We were able to stop it right there. There was very little damage to the structure, although we did have to take the front door out. So there’s a little bit of damage there.” Baker said the house suffered minor damage, but the car was a total loss.

LOUISVILLE - If the Class A championship had a familiar look to it, there's a good reason. The similarities in Friday's state final between Danville and Beechwood and last year's game between the same teams were starkly clear. The only difference was in who had the upper hand. Beechwood did to Danville this year exactly what Danville did to Beechwood last year, dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and rolling to a 23-7 victory at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

LOUISVILLE - Before the season began, Danville coach Sam Harp felt defense would be his team's strong suit. Harp proved to be a prophet because of the way his defense played in the Class A state championship game here Friday in a 42-7 win over Beechwood. The Admirals dominated the game by forcing the Tigers into four turnovers, holding them to 22 yards rushing and giving up just 211 yards overall to win their 10th state title. Danville defensive coordinator Jerry Perry knew that the Admirals needed to keep the Beechwood offense off the field.

They have won more state championships than any other high school football coach in Kentucky, so Sam Harp and Mike Yeagle know full well what to expect when they take their teams to Louisville. Both the Danville and Beechwood coaches know they'll have all the challenge they can handle Friday when their teams meet for the Class A championship. Friday's game at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is a rematch of last year's Class A final, in which Danville rolled to a 42-7 victory in the first meeting ever between two of the most tradition-rich programs in Kentucky.

LOUISVILLE - Sam Harp didn't expect Danville's 10th state championship to come so easily Friday, but all he had to do was ask Charles Penix and Kelvin Turner for help. Penix had a career day with 268 yards and two touchdowns and Turner had 186 yards rushing and four touchdowns as Danville ran roughshod over Beechwood in a 42-7 victory in the Class A state championship game at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. "I was quite surprised we were able to win it the way we were," Harp said.

Coming at 'em : Beechwood was the first team this season whose offense was successful at running up the middle against Danville, and Harp said the Admirals' coaching staff hoped not many teams would try that this season. "We were hoping nobody would line up and ran it right at us all year long," Harp said. Tackle trouble: Harp said poor tackling was partly to blame for the success of Beechwood running backs Dustin Menetrey and Eric Sawyer, who combined to rush for 241 yards.

LOUISVILLE - Danville learned a hard, but perhaps valuable lesson, against Beechwood here Friday. Beechwood overpowered Danville 23-7 in the Class A state title game, a loss that left Danville coaches and players acknowledging that the Admirals had to do more in the weight room before next season. "Our young guys won't get back here ever if they don't play stronger," said Danville assistant coach Jerry Perry. "We've told them they were weak all year. We've compensated for that with quickness, but when you line up with somebody that wants to play toe-to-toe, you've got to have more than quickness.
