LIBERTY - Elliot Cannon knew he would be counted on to bring scoring to a Casey County boys team which lost three starters. And he has done that, leading the Rebels at 14.6 points per game. But even he is surprised at how he has contributed on the boards, where he also leads the Rebels at 7.6 rebounds per game. "Yeah, it's surprised me how much difference there is from last year to this year, being able to step in there and do something on the boards," said the 6-5 junior, who is also shooting 53 percent from the field and has 19 steals.

The Cats had been outrebounding their opponents by only 2.6 per game, but they outrebounded the Razorbacks 38-23 overall and 13-3 on the offensive boards.

Boyle County coach Judie Mason knew going into Tuesday's game with Henry Clay that the Blue Devils were bigger and more athletic than her team. That's why she told her team that rebounding was the most important key to the game. The Rebels (6-4) held their own and trailed only 19-15 after one period of play. Henry Clay then got 12 offensive rebounds in the second quarter - and scored after six of them - and closed the stanza with a 15-2 scoring run to lead 42-25 and went on to post a 71-59 win over the Rebels in the second round of the Boyle County Invitational.

In response to Mr. Beckman's understandable concern, there are actually two local citizens committees that are monitoring and are regularly briefed on the Philips facility clean-up: both the EDP and Industrial Foundation Board of Directors. These boards are comprised of informed local business, civic and government leaders with the best interest of the community's economic and healthy well-being in mind. This issue is well within the mission of both boards. Further, these boards have a local wealth of resources and knowledge available to them through Centre College and its faculty.

LIBERTY - A Casey County woman was injured on the job this morning when her hair and hand were pulled into rollers that move boards at a pallet mill. Neli Terrones, 37, mangled three fingers and suffered possible injuries to her neck in the accident, which occurred about 7:30 a.m. at Barron Pallets Inc. on Ky. 1552 about eight miles north of Liberty. Terrones was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Supervisor Gary Stafford said Terrones, who has worked at Barron for six years, was sorting boards coming from a rip saw when her hair got tangled in a line of mechanized rollers that move boards away from the saw. Terrones reached to free her hair, and her hand also was pulled into the roller.

There is an interesting phenomenon asserting itself as relates to volunteerism in Winchester. If one looks at the many boards, commissions, committees, etc. that work to make life in Winchester and Clark County more livable and which contain appointed and volunteer members, it is noteworthy that so few professionals sit on any of these boards. Aside from the Health Department's board, there are few if any physicians or nurses on other boards. There is one dentist who is a member of the Clark County/Winchester Heritage Commission and the Board of Zoning Adjustments.
