Navy Seaman recruit Jeffery S. Cremeans, son of Tamatha L. Blum and stepson of Robert Woda of Danville, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Cremeans completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations.

Homecoming revival planned A homecoming revival will be Monday-Oct. 7 at Calvary Tabernacle Church in Kings Mountain. Different ministers will preach throughout the week. Lunch will be around noon Oct. 7; church will not be held that evening. Services will be 7 p.m. every day except Oct. 7 when the service will be 10:30 a.m. For more information, call (606) 365-7366. Habitat construction days canceled Habitat for Humanity Mercer County has canceled construction work today and Saturday and rescheduled it for Oct. 5-6 starting at 8:30 a.m. Everyone over 18 is welcome to bring their tools and help install roof shingles, windows and doors.

The newest addition to The Journal's news staff is new to Jessamine County but not to central Kentucky. Benjamin Rossi, 29, comes to The Journal as a staff writer after nearly three years in various capacities at the Georgetown News-Graphic. Rossi moved around the country in a military family growing up but settled into school at Angelo State University in west Texas, where he graduated in 2006 with a journalism degree and a minor in graphic design. He said he started doing journalism for discipline in his life.

LEXINGTON - Freshman Donald Williams doesn't mind taking a backseat to his new cast of teammates. While in high school, Williams averaged 25 points per game at Progressive Christian Academy in Baton Rouge, La., and was used to be the team's top player, easily dominating the opposing team from long range. Now that he's found a new home at Kentucky, Williams is willing to sit back and pay his dues. For Williams, 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, it's like starting over. "All of the years I've been playing basketball, I've been a starter," he said.
