The hits were hard to come by for the George Rogers Clark baseball team Tuesday. The Cardinals managed just three hits in a 3-0 setback to Bourbon County at Cardinal Field, less than 24 hours after ripping out 11 hits in a 9-7 victory over Bryan Station. Clark (9-10) edged the Colonels 7-6 on April 9 in Paris, but Bourbon (16-5) returned the favor, holding out hope for a possible top seed in the 40th District. Both teams play district leader Montgomery County next week. Bourbon pitcher Kaven Brown gave up a double to Steven Davis in the second, a single to Brent Stoneking in the third and a one-bagger to Scotty Turner in the seventh and got help from his team's defense, which allowed just two runners past second.

Coach: Matt Puckett, third season. Last year: The Lady Cardinals went 15-20 and suffered a 4-0 loss to Bourbon County in the first round of the 40th District Tournament. Clark graduated one starter and has seven returning. Top returnees: Whitney Conkwright, Kolbi Mitchell and Skye Skinner. Outlook: Puckett will rely on pitching as a key to his team's success this season. Conkwright “will lead the pack,” while junior Ashlee Crowe, freshman Jessica Neal and Bryah Campbell will give the Lady Cards depth in the pitcher's circle.
