Barbara Hall is the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County's 2011 Arts Citizen. Hall is the H.W. Stodghill Jr. and Adele H. Stodghill Professor of Music at Centre College. Arts Commission President Mimi Becker said Hall was chosen “because of her outstanding work as a teacher and a conductor of the choral groups at Centre College since she joined the faculty in 1980.” “More importantly, she was chosen for her work with the three community choral groups: Sounding Joy, Summer Singers and the (Danville)

Kody Ross homered and drove in two runs and Jacob¿Preston and Josiah Robbins each had two hits Friday as Boyle County won a 6-3 decision at Casey County. Addison Coffey went the first two innings to pick up the win, giving up no runs and striking out two for Boyle (19-14).  Robbins doubled and Preston tripled for Boyle, which scored four runs in the top of the third to take an early 4-0 lead. Connor Blevins led off the inning by reaching on an error, went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Jacob Pike reached on a Casey error.

Sammi Key went 3-for-3 with a home run and drove in three runs and Hannah Miniard tossed a two-hitter Wednesday as Boyle County shut out visiting Anderson County 6-0. “This was a good win, I felt we did a lot of things correctly,”¿Boyle coach Brian Deem said. “I feel we are improving. We still had a couple of mistakes we've got to clean up before the postseason gets here, but overall, it was a great effort by the girls. We had a tough fight with Anderson earlier in the year, winning 4-3 (on March 21)

Addison Coffey threw a five-hit shutout in the first game and Micah Miniard and Casey Whittle combined to allow only two hits in the second as Boyle County won twice Saturday in the Doc Morris Invitational at Alexandria. Boyle (10-5) defeated Highlands 4-0 and host Campbell County 10-3 in pool-play games in the tournament, which is played at multiple sites around northern Kentucky. Coffey held Highlands (6-7) scoreless in the Rebels' first game, striking out seven batters and walking only three in seven innings.

Wind and lightning that usually come with spring weather swept through the area Sunday night, knocking out electrical power to hundreds of customers in Boyle County. Kentucky Utilities spokesman Cliff Feltham said the outage mainly affected the east side of Danville. Power went out for 1,275 customers at 3:49 a.m. and was restored at 6:11 a.m. Feltham said it is not known exactly what caused the outage, but it was storm-related. Despite the high winds, Boyle County Emergency Management Agency Director Lennie Shepperson said there had not been any reports of significant property damage to homes or businesses.

East Jessamine's record-setting season came to an end Monday night in the 12th Region semifinals. The Jaguars fell to Boyle County, 63-57. This season East Jessamine (28-5) set school records in wins with 28 and winning streak with 17 consecutive wins. “You can't take away from what they've accomplished this year. They've had a great year,” East Jessamine coach Chris O'Bryan said. “Won the first district championship (and) won so many games.” Monday night's game against Boyle County (13-15)

Boyle County didn’t make the same mistake visiting Danville did. The Admirals stranded runners at second and third base thanks to back-to-back strikeouts by Boyle  pitcher KK Davis to end the first inning before the Rebels (14-5, 4-1 45th District) used four hits, one walk and two Danville errors to score five times in the bottom of the first inning and roll to an 8-0 win on the artificial turf. “We have started out slow the last few games, but we came out strong tonight,” said Boyle coach Chris LeMonds.
