Being a point guard isn't any easy task. Just ask Marquis Teague. “It's not that easy at all,” the Kentucky freshman said. “You've got to get everybody in position, and make sure you're giving guys (an opportunity to score). We've got other guys who can score and I've got to keep them happy, too. We have a lot of great players and I've got to make sure everybody is getting the ball and getting a chance to play.” Teague scored nine points, dished out four assists and committed just two turnovers in top-ranked Kentucky's 69-44 win over Tennessee earlier this week at Rupp Arena.

LEXINGTON - He's not ready to annoint his team as national champion, or even Southeastern Conference champion, as LSU coach Trent Johnson was ready to do after Kentucky demolished the Tigers on Saturday. However, UKÃ?¿coach John Calipari had to admit “we were good” after watching his No. 1 Wildcats stymie Tennessee 69-44 Tuesday night. “We played in a rough game. We played good,” said Calipari. How good? Good enough that UK made its first 11 shots from the field and opened a 20-5 lead before the Volunteers knew what happened.

LEXINGTON - In a game that was played at a faster pace than most teams were willing to go against Kentucky, freshman point guard Marquis Teague somehow managed to slow down and play perhaps his best game for the No. 2 Wildcats. Teague only had seven points in Tuesday's 86-63 victory over Arkansas, but that's what was best about his game. He didn't think about scoring like previous UK¿point guards John Wall and Brandon Knight had to do for coach John Calipari. Instead, Teague was content to distribute the ball, run the offense and continue to play defense.

LEXINGTON - John Calipari has at times been freshman point guard Marquis Teague's harshest critic, which the Kentucky coach says is what he's supposed to do. Yet the UK coach also felt he had to point out that his freshman is playing a lot better than many Kentucky fans want to believe considering UK is 15-1 after Saturday's 79-64 win over South Carolina. Teague had 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 at the foul line (he's 23-for-28 since his late miss against North Carolina eight games ago)

LEXINGTON - Kentucky has six players that have taken between 103 and 142 shots from the field this season during the team's 13-1 start going into tonight's game in Louisville against Arkansas-Little Rock. While it's no surprise that sophomore guard Doron Lamb, the team's top scorer at 15.4 points per game, leads the team with 142 shots taken, it seems a bit unusual that point guard Marquis Teague is next on the team with 131 shots. That's four more shots than Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and 28 more shots than Anthony Davis.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky coach John Calipari knows he'll continued to criticized for having players stay just one year in college and then head to the NBA, especially with his blessing. However, the Kentucky coach emphasized again Tuesday that he doesn't understand why the media pays little attention to his team's grade-point average when it is a respectable 2.73, as it was for the first semester, compared to the attention it gets when his team does not do well. “Because I have guys leaving after one year, if it is a question about academics, you're only going to promote when they do poorly?

LEXINGTON - Kentucky coach said all preseason that freshman point guard Marquis Teague would struggle - like every other point guard he has had - early in the season, and Teague did. He had 18 turnovers and only 11 assists in Kentucky's first four games. However, despite a subpar first half at Indiana last week, he has 27 assists and only eight turnovers the past five games. He was 0-for-5 from the field and had three turnovers the first half at Indiana and did not play the first 4 minutes, 10 seconds of the second half.

Terrence Jones has a simple explanation that he learned through his own experiences to tell freshman point guard Marquis Teague when he senses he might be overwhelmed by what he hears from Kentucky coach John Calipari. “I feel he is equally tough on everyone. Coach treats everyone the same. He has got on me a lot of times, too. It is just how he coaches and you can't take it personal, especially if you are the point guard running the team,” said Jones. “I tell him just try and get his mind on the game and not really listen to how he is saying it but listen to what he is saying because Coach knows what he's talking about.

LEXINGTON - Terrence Jones got a lot of chances to smile Saturday during Kentucky's 73-72 win over North Carolina that should keep UK¿No. 1 in the national rankings this week. Jones had 14 points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals and one assist in 35 minutes against the nation's fifth-ranked team in a matchup that attracted 28 NBA scouts as well as numerous national media members. Several of Jones' biggest smiles came in the first half after he scored because his mother was sitting just a few rows behind the UK¿basket.

She had so many stories and so much information to consider, Tonya Knight thought there was only one approach to take to her book about her son, Brandon Knight, and his journey from a basketball beginner to a NBA first-round draft pick following his freshman year at Kentucky. “I just went with my gut instinct. I didn't want to take potshots at anybody,” said Knight. “I am very happy with the book. It will give people a little glimpse into our lives. There's even a surprise picture that Brandon knows nothing about.
