Burgin routed Garrard County 25-8, 25-6 on Tuesday night in the Bulldogs' final home match of the regular season. It was the last home match for seniors Kaelin May and Lindsey Monson, and Burgin coach Maggie McKnight said both played key roles as the Bulldogs won for the third time in four matches. “It would be an understatement to say that the girls went out with a bang. Lindsey led the team in kills against Garrard, and Kaelin was the defensive foundation for the match without a passing error all night,” McKnight said.

The West Jessamine Lady Colts can partially blame Monday night's narrow 51-46 loss to Burgin on free-throw shooting. West shot 15-of-24 from the free-throw line. The Lady Bulldogs shot 24-of-27 from the line. However, the Colts offense was struggling from the start. They scored just two points in the first quarter - a basket by Erin Conner at the 5:20 mark. West trailed 12-2 after the first quarter. Burgin and West did a complete turn around in the second quarter, as the Lady Colts outscored the Lady Bulldogs 15-5.

BURGIN - Coming off four losses in the All “A¿Classic last weekend, Burgin coach Maggie McKnight wasn't sure how her team would react getting back into their regular schedule. Turns out, the Bulldogs didn't miss a beat. Liz Marcinek served nine straight aces during a 15-0 run in the first game Tuesday, and Burgin downed Mercer County 25-13, 25-16. “I was a little worried because we came back knowing we played well, but at the same time a little deflated. So I was glad to see them actually come out and play with a little energy,” said McKnight, who thought playing a rival in Mercer helped get the Bulldogs focused.

The Burgin girls may not have been familiar with their surroundings this weekend, but they were exactly where they wanted to be. The Bulldogs were in uncharted territory at the Boyle County Invitational, where they played a couple of teams that are a cut above most of those on their schedule, and they left satisfied both with the way they matched up with those teams and with what they believe that will do for them down the road. Burgin had the best record of any of the four area volleyball teams in the eight-team event at Centre College, going 3-0 in its pool before being knocked out by Nelson County in a semifinal Saturday.

MONTICELLO - After missing regionals for the past two seasons, Lincoln's volleyball team was looking for more than a “one-and-done” return. And the Lady Patriots got it. Lincoln bowed to Burgin in the first game of the season, but the Lady Patriots weren't intimidated Tuesday in a rematch as they ousted the Lady Bulldogs 25-18, 25-23 in the 12th Region Tournament quarterfinals at Wayne County High School. “That's why we're here,” said Lincoln coach Amanda Massey-Wiles. “We're here to win and we just wanted to play our best.

East Jessamine was victorious in its first district outing of the season. The Jaguars scratched Burgin 81-46 Tuesday night. The Jags’ goal heading into the game was to get off to a strong start and take a big lead early. A goal they didn’t have any trouble meeting was the way they were moving the ball around on offense and denying the Bulldogs on defense. “We came back from Florida with a little more focus I think,” East coach Chris O’Bryan said. “We wanted to get after them at the beginning with a lot of intensity, and I think we did that.
