LANCASTER - Two men accused of breaking into the Garrard County Courthouse in July have been indicted. Denver Chris Smith, 36, and Jerry Glen Howe, 37, are charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking less than $300. They allegedly entered the courthouse July 15 or 16, took items worth less than $300 and damaged the building. The indictment also states that Smith allegedly committed third-degree burglary, theft more than $300, and third-degree criminal mischief when he alone or in complicity with a juvenile unlawfully entered the Garrard County Attorney's office on July 16 or 17.

HARRODSBURG - A Harrodsburg man was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to steal a coffee maker and cans of paint from the Mercer County Fairgrounds, where he used to work. Elmer Barnes, 82, was charged with burglary and criminal trespassing after fairground employees saw him trying to take the items, police said. Barnes had previously been banned from the property for allegedly taking items for his own personal use, police said.

A Danville man was arrested Thursday night in connection with a recent Third Street burglary. Jeffrey Pemberton, 32, of 609 N. Third St., Apt. 1, was taken into custody after city police linked him to the burglary at 626 N. Third St. Pemberton is charged with second-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking less than $300. The burglary is one of several reported in the past few weeks. Interim Police Chief Tony Gray said two burglaries and two thefts recently occurred on North Third Street between Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation and Candlewood subdivision.

DANVILLE - Three men were charged with second-degree burglary Saturday after two of them were allegedly seen walking across Centre's campus early Saturday morning carrying eight laptop computers, a DVD player and computer monitor. According to police reports, Steven Squires, 20, of Campbellsvile, and Jeffrey Doherty, 19, of Erlanger, were stopped by Centre College Security Officer Brad Hundley after he saw the pair walking across campus with the equipment. Hundley told police he knew the items belong to Centre, so he detained the two men until police arrived.

MCKINNEY - According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sheriff Curt Folger and Deputy Bill Schnitzler responded to a burglary in progress on Boneyard Hollow Road at a property owned by Fred Cox. Police say they discovered Dallas Messer, 39, of Sparta, and Robert Messer, 28, of Ghent, loading property into a vehicle at the scene. Both men allegedly stated they worked for Stout Co., a subcontractor for Wells Fargo Mortgage Co., and were cleaning hazardous materials from the property.

LIBERTY - A local teenager apparently was unaware that a camera was recording him after he allegedly came through a window at Jones Park Elementary School, police said. It was 7:30 p.m. Saturday when the suspect came through the classroom window that had apparently been left unlocked, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff Chad Weddle. The camera allegedly shows photos of the subject taking several items - Dell computer, flat 15-inch screen monitor, a speaker, mouse, head phones and 15 CDs - from the classroom, according to the police report.

Danville police said a man with a protective order against him allegedly kicked in the door of a woman's house early this morning and assaulted her. About 4:30 a.m., police received a report of a burglary in progress at 218 E. Erskine Drive. Minutes later while responding to the call, police received notification from the victim, Chelsea E. Christison, 20, that the perpetrator, Jeffrey E. Guest, 19, of 103 Balasa Drive, Apt. 54, had entered her house and a disturbance was in progress.

Two people have been arrested and charged with breaking into Perryville Elementary School Jan. 14. Buddy Davis, 23, of Perryville, and Joey Graham, 19, of 3755 Alum Springs Road, were charged Friday with burglary, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking more than $300 and possession of burglary tools. Boyle County Detective Marty Elliott said the pair are accused of using a hatchet at 1:30 a.m. to break through a back door in the school. Once inside, Elliott said they allegedly caused approximately $6,000 in damages, and stole computer equipment and cash.

The Nicholasville Police Department is asking the public's help in solving a burglary which took place around 2:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 13, at 536 Applegrove Drive, near Lake Mingo. According to Officer Kevin Grimes, two males, one with brown hair and the other with blond, both wearing dark-colored clothing, were spotted by a neighbor carrying a big screen television toward Lake Mingo. When confronted, the men dropped the TV and kicked it causing unrepairable damage, then fled through Lake Mingo Park toward Lake Street.

HARRODSBURG Three people were arrested recently after a Harrodsburg man called police to report that someone was trying to break into his house. According to a Harrodsburg Police Department press release Johnathan Devine, 19, and James Hammack, 22, both of 269 Stopher Lane, were arrested after Carlos Devine, 48, of 796 Stoner St., reported to police that they were trying to break into his house. When police arrived, the two adults and a 16 -year-old male were apprehended. Devine and Hammack were taken to the Boyle County Detention Center and were later released after posting bond.
