The East Jessamine girls' basketball team was able to bounce back from an loss in its season opener to edge Campbellsville 53-46 on Friday night. The Lady Jaguars (1-2) were led by senior Madison Collins and her 19 points, but Heather Welch gave East a huge boost with 11 points in her first start of the season. “Heather really steped up,” East coach Jacqueline Coleman said. “She got that start because of how hard she works in practice.” Collins paced East early, scoring the team's first seven points, and added six more in the second quarter to help give East a 25-19 lead at halftime.

Boyle County has a new way to dispose of wood waste from both industries and individuals that should save the county money while helping power a Campbellsville company. Boyle Fiscal Court approved an agreement Tuesday with Cox Interiors Inc., a business that mills interior doors and windows, under which the company will chip and haul untreated wood to be used as fuel. Cox Interiors environmental director Ruth Logsdon said the company has a five megawatt power plant built in 1993 that uses a process called biomass cogeneration to produce all of the energy needed for the business.

Lincoln County broke open a close game with six runs in the top of the fifth inning Thursday and went on for a 15-7 win at Campbellsville. Morgan Cooper went 2 for 6 with a double and scored three times while Chelsea Marcum tripled, had three RBIs and scored three times. Maggie Taylor doubled and scored three runs and Gabby Gabriel scored three runs for Lincoln (17-14). Kellie Conley added a double and RBI, Lindsey Gifford had a hit and drove in a run and Kristen Meece was 2 for 4. The Burgin girls snapped a two-game losing streak Tuesday and beat visiting Campbellsville 46-34. Liz Marcinek had 18 points and Randi Burke scored 10 for the Bulldogs (9-8), who led 28-22 at the half and 32-29 after three quarters before pulling away late. Trinity Christian 38, Danville Christian Academy 19 - At Lexington, the Warriors (8-8) were outscored 14-1 in the third quarter in a loss at Trinity Christian. Kristen Asmus led DCA¿with nine points and Katherine Raines had seven rebounds.

Boyle County senior Eric Sheaks wasn't sure he wanted to continue playing soccer in college. But Campbellsville made him a nice offer, and he signed with the school earlier this month. "Basically, I liked the environment, and that it's a private school and also the academics they offer there," said Sheaks, who is getting combination of academic and athletic scholarships. "The coach (Preston Adams) asked if I wanted to come and try out for the soccer team. I did, and they seemed to like what I offered.

Family pressure wasn’t the driving force behind Tyler Priest’s decision to play college football at Union, but it certainly could have been. “What drew me in is it feels like home down there. I’m from down there, my mom and dad and uncle all went there. My grandfather was the dean of education, and my grandmother worked in the admissions office,” the Boyle County senior said. “But my family never made it a priority for me to go to Union, they let me go my own way.” But still, Priest said Union gave him the best offer and he loved the Barbourville school.

LIBERTY - A Campbellsville man has been charged with fourth-degree assault and terroristic threatening, according to records in the circuit clerk's office. Lewis M. Cox, 61, was arrested Friday on warrants in Campbellsville. He is accused of assaulting Maxine Hale and causing injuries to her arm. Cox's bond is $500 cash and he was instructed to have no contact with Hale. Officer Shannon Wilson made the arrest.
